Summary
- Blue and Leaf are new Supporter cards in Pokemon Pocket, with Leaf being the champion due to her universal utility.
- Blue may seem unnecessary, but he can be a game-changer in crucial moments where survival is key in Pokemon Pocket.
- Budding Expeditioner is niche and at risk of falling out of the metagame in Pokemon Pocket due to her limited synergy with decks.
As a seasoned gamer who’s been playing Pokémon since the days of Gameboy and Red & Blue, I must say that the Mythical Island expansion for Pokémon Pocket has truly brought back some nostalgic feelings! The introduction of Leaf, Blue, and Budding Expeditioner as new Supporter cards has certainly shaken up the metagame.
In the expansion for Pokemon Pocket called Mythical Island, three fresh Supporter cards were included: Leaf, Blue, and Budding Expeditioner. This enlarged the collection of Supporter cards within the game to a total of eleven unique characters.
The fact that Blue and Leaf appear together in the same expansion isn’t just coincidental. In the world of Pokémon, these two characters have been arch-rivals for quite some time, with Leaf emerging victorious against Blue during the Indigo League Championship. Now they’re competing again, this time as Supporter cards aiming for prominence in the game’s metagame within Pokémon Pocket. This naturally leads to a question: Which one will excel or become a standard element (META) in the game? To help clarify, here’s a ranking based on analysis and predictions.
3. Budding Expeditioner
Neat, but Niche
- Rarity: 2-Diamond & 2-Star
- Text: Put your Mew ex in the Active Spot into your hand.
People have nicknamed the Trainer card “Budding Expeditioner” as “Koga for Mew ex,” which explains its function in a more straightforward manner. This card allows you to send Mew ex back to your deck and restore it, giving it a specialized use that’s quite particular.
In many Pokemon decks, Mew ex’s primary move, Genome Hacking, being a Colorless attack, is a common sight. This is due to its strong compatibility with Budding Expeditioners. Nevertheless, Budding Expeditioner could potentially be replaced by another game-changing card in the meta, making it less favored among Supporter cards in the Mythical Island expansion. If she had better synergy with Psychic-Type cards, she might even become the most preferred Supporter card instead.
2. Blue
The Underdog Supporter
- Rarity: 2-Diamond & 2-Star
- Text: During your opponent’s next turn, all of your Pokemon take ten less damage from attacks from your opponent’s Pokemon.
In the Pokemon Pocket community, Blue wasn’t warmly accepted when he was first introduced. Many gamers still consider him an excess and a hindrance in deck-building rather than a beneficial Supporter. Nevertheless, it’s essential to understand that Blue serves as a doomsday card—a Supporter who can dramatically shift the course of a game during rare but critical moments.
Picture this scenario: You’re on the verge of evolving or enhancing your primary attacker on the bench, but your opponent could instantly defeat your active Pokemon and compel you to play an unready replacement, potentially leaving them with an advantage. However, playing Blue provides that crucial moment of respite, allowing your active Pokemon to endure and complete its build-up strategy. In the subsequent round, you manage to take down their active Pokemon and emerge victorious. That’s how significant Blue can be in turning the tide of battle.
1. Leaf
The True Champion of Mythical Island Supporters
- Rarity: 2-Diamond & 2-Star
- Text: During this turn, the Retreat Cost of your Active Pokemon is two less.
In the world of Pokemon, much like how Leaf eventually overcomes Blue, she triumphs differently in Pokemon Pocket. Her victory is facilitated by a more versatile and widely applicable advantage: making double Energy Retreats costless. This makes Leaf an exceptional Supporter card in the Mythical Island expansion. She’s highly adaptable, making her a go-to choice for numerous decks, particularly those featuring Charizard ex, where Moltres ex might be currently active. In such situations, Leaf intervenes, replacing Moltres at no cost, allowing the powerful Charizard ex to take charge instead.
Leaf outperforms Blue primarily because it’s not a “last resort” card. While Blue can save an Active Pokémon for another turn in unusual situations, such instances aren’t common and Blue may not always get the opportunity to excel. However, Leaf is generally effective in many matches, particularly in decks that feature Pokémon needing two Energy to retreat, which occurs frequently.
