Summary
- Stussy volunteered for cloning and was unproductive as a scientist.
- Queen crafts deadly weapons and is a force to be reckoned with.
- Judge created the Germa Army and Raid Suits, but was an awful father.
Throughout their journey, Luffy and his Straw Hat companions have encountered numerous powerful, unusual, and bizarre inventions created by some of the world’s brilliant minds in the One Piece universe. Although not many characters are formally recognized as scientists within the series, they hold significant importance due to their vast knowledge, making them frequent targets for the Marines and World Government, given their potential influence.
In contrast, some of these characters chose paths that led them to become pirates, employing their extraordinary intellect to aid their crew in finding the legendary treasure known as One Piece. Others opted for a more secretive approach, continuing their research undetected to avoid government interference. Despite their varying methods, all of these characters demonstrate exceptional intelligence, as evidenced by their remarkable feats displayed throughout the series. This is a comparison of the intellectual capabilities and accomplishments of the scientists in One Piece.
6. Buckingham Stussy
The Former Rocks Pirate Is A Self-Proclaimed Scientist Who Was Even A Member Of MADS
- First Appearance: Episode 752
Initially, Buckingham Stussy appeared to be just an ordinary old woman with a penchant for causing chaos through her faithful servant Weevil. However, upon closer inspection, there’s much more depth to this character than one might initially think. It was revealed that she had quite an exciting past, having sailed the seas alongside the notorious pirate Rocks D. Xebec and his fearsome crew. Later on, Stussy found herself joining a highly secretive group of scientists, MADS, where she became associates with prominent figures such as Vegapunk, Caesar Clown, and Queen.
To put it simply, Vegapunk himself confessed that Stussy didn’t contribute significantly to the team’s scientific work during her tenure, but she was the one who agreed to be cloned, which is the Stussy fans recognize in the series. Despite not being as intelligent as her former colleagues, it’s clear that Stussy possesses some level of expertise in duplicating people, given her personal experience with this process.
5. Queen
Kaido’s Loyal Commander Uses His Intelligence to Create Weapons Of Destruction
- First Appearance: Episode 918
In the primary narrative, Queen initially wasn’t part of the MADS but later joined forces with the Beast Pirates, serving directly under Kaido, a formidable Yonko. Kaido welcomed him primarily due to his unique ability to materialize various objects at will. This power was vividly demonstrated during the Wano battle on the performance floor, where Queen produced a gatling gun capable of firing an Ice Oni disease. This deadly weapon caused those infected to turn against each other, leading to a chaotic and brutal melee.
The monarch has significantly altered his physical form, enabling him to elongate his limbs, making it difficult for adversaries to counter him. Although his transformations have been measured by characters like Chopper and Sanji using precise methods, the monarch remains a formidable opponent, as he is always prepared with a cache of deadly weapons that he can employ instantaneously.
4. Vinsmoke Judge
An Awful Father, But A Wicked-Smart Scientist Who Created A Ruthless Army
- First Appearance: Episode 793
Sanji swiftly acknowledges a deep-seated animosity towards his family, particularly his father, Judge, due to Judge’s actions. He raised his children to be cold, emotionless killing machines, designed to help him rebuild the Germa Kingdom in North Blue. Moreover, Judge is credited with creating the potent Raid Suits, which the Germa family uses to boost their speed, agility, and combat prowess during battles.
Sanji, unlike his siblings, didn’t resemble them due to their mother consuming a drug that shielded him from Judges’ control, which made him a frequent target for bullying as a child. Given the formidable strength displayed by Germa 66 during the Whole Cake Island storyline, it’s clear that Judge is an exceptionally talented scientist with the potential to conquer entire islands if he chose to do so. However, his methods for conducting experiments are deeply reprehensible.
3. Saturn
The Former Gorosei Member had No Quarrels Conducting Experiments On Living Humans
- First Appearance: Episode 228
The Gorosei, a council of elders known for their ruthless suppression of those who question their power or delve into the past, aren’t exactly portrayed as charming figures. This is particularly true for Saturn, a former Warrior God of Science and Defense, who lost favor with Imu and now stands out as less than appealing due to his history.
In the narrative, Saturn, though a relatively new character, has shown remarkable intelligence, as hinted by Oda. One clear demonstration of this is when Saturn managed to extract and inject Devil Fruit essence into Bonnie, which was thought to be impossible given her young age at the time. Manipulating Devil Fruits in such a manner is extremely difficult, making it all the more astonishing that he succeeded, even though his actions were entirely immoral.
2. Caesar Clown
Caesar Figured Out A Way To Create Artificial Devil Fruits To Help Kaido Crate A Ferocious Army
- First Appearance: Episode 581
Regarding Devil Fruits, Caesar Clown has achieved something unprecedented in the series – crafting artificial ones that function reliably, for the most part. With deals struck with Kaido and Doflamingo, Caesar manufactured thousands of these fruits on Punk Hazard which he later sold to Kaido as part of an illicit trade. Unfortunately, some of the fruits were defective, causing severe side effects among the people of Wano. However, those that worked transformed many of Kaido’s Beast Pirates into fearsome monsters in a heartbeat.
In addition to his ongoing experiments, Caesar was also working on a method to turn children into giants, as instructed by Big Mom. This was intended to increase the size of her crew members. Though these creations lack moral integrity since they primarily benefit Caesar, there’s no denying the impressive scientific skills he has demonstrated in the series.
1. Vegapunk
Vegapunk’s Intelligence Was Both A Blessing And A Curse For The Quirky Scientist
- First Appearance: Episode 610
During their journey, Luffy and his group often come across the name Vegapunk, but it isn’t until they reach Egghead Island where they finally encounter this individual in person. Previously a member of MADS who later chose to operate independently, Vegapunk stands out as the most intelligent character throughout the entire series. Not only did he develop the Seraphims, beings powerful enough to replace the Shichibukai as Marine’s subordinates, but he also managed to uncover some of the forbidden knowledge connected to the Void Century.
Moreover, Vegapunk devised a method to split his mind across numerous Satellites, each endowed with distinct traits that mirrored the man himself. Unlike other characters in the series, Vegapunk was motivated by a desire to apply his genius to resolving some of the world’s most pressing issues. However, this altruistic intent made him seem more dangerous to the Marines and the World Government, leading to his gruesome death at the hands of an old friend, who felt it necessary to eliminate such a knowledgeable threat.
