Paladins are powerful warriors who use holy magic to strengthen their weapons and destroy evil. They can also heal their companions, making them valuable allies in the ongoing fight against darkness.
If you’re looking for a strong leader in Solasta 2, Paladins are a fantastic option. They excel in both fighting and social interactions. To make the most of a Paladin as your main character and overcome the challenges of Neokos, it’s important to create a powerful and effective build.
This guide is written for the initial version of Solasta 2, which became available on March 12, 2026. Because the game will be updated with new features and a higher level cap, this guide will be revised as needed to reflect those changes.

Paladins can be challenging to build because they require a balance of different stats. To be truly effective, a Paladin needs high Strength for fighting, Charisma to fuel their special abilities, Dexterity for defense, and Constitution for health.
For Paladins, focus on maximizing Strength first. Charisma is the next most important stat, and then put any remaining points into Dexterity and Constitution. Paladins excel in combat and deal a lot of damage, so prioritizing Strength is key to making them effective.

Solasta 2’s Early Access version lets you choose from four different character origins. If you want to play a Paladin, the Dwarf is a strong choice. They have several helpful abilities, including Darkvision, poison resistance, extra health, and Tremorsense, which lets them fight enemies even if they’re hidden from view. All of these advantages will make you a more powerful fighter.
If you can’t play a Human, the next best option is a Human with the Robust Origin. The Robust trait gives you more hit points and makes you tougher, which is extremely valuable for a character who’s meant to be right in the middle of the action, fighting enemies directly.

In Solasta 2, your character’s background gives them bonuses to two stats (+2 and +1), and also unlocks a special ability called an Origin Feat, which adds extra skills beyond what their class normally offers.
For Paladins, the Wanderer background is an excellent choice. It allows you to increase your Strength, Constitution, and Dexterity, and you’ll also learn the Savage Attacker feat. This feat lets you roll damage twice and take the better result, making it especially useful if you focus on fighting.
If you’re building a Paladin, I really like the Aristocrat background! It lets you boost your Strength, Charisma, and Constitution, which are all super useful. Plus, you get the Skilled feat, meaning you can become proficient in three more skills. Honestly, if you want your Paladin to be the party’s spokesperson and handle a lot of social interactions, this background is fantastic because it gives you a wider range of skills to work with.

Paladins don’t heavily rely on skills, gaining only two skill choices outside of their background and ancestry. However, some of those skill options are more useful than others, so players should prioritize carefully.
- Persuasion — If you’re going to be the face of the party, pick this straight away, especially as it benefits from a high Charisma modifier.
- Athletics — If you’re the only bruiser in the party, pick Athletics, as you’ll be able to reliably deal with large objects.
- Intimidation — Like Persuasion, this is a great choice for dialogue-heavy characters, as it allows you to end a lot of fights before they start, especially random encounters.

In Solasta 2, Paladins get to choose a subclass at level 3, letting them gain unique abilities not found in Baldur’s Gate 3. The available options are the Oath of Judgment and the Oath of Liberation.
Judgment Paladins learn the Guiding Bolt and Inflict Wounds spells. They also gain a special ability called Weight of Justice, letting them deal extra damage equal to their level when they attack by using their Channel Divinity. This ability can also restrain the target and forces them to make a Charisma saving throw. Finally, they gain Purge Corruption, which removes harmful status effects.
The Oath of Liberation Paladin learns the spells Expeditious Retreat and Sleep. They also gain two special abilities: Blinding Castigation, which can temporarily blind an enemy up to 60 feet away (though the enemy can try to shake off the effect each turn), and Slip Away, which briefly turns all allies within 30 feet invisible.
Choosing the best subclass isn’t simple. While Oath of Judgement offers stronger spells, Oath of Liberation has more effective abilities. Ultimately, Oath of Liberation is better because Clerics readily gain access to useful spells like Guiding Bolt and Inflict Wounds. Paladins can learn these spells too, with the Magic Initiate (Cleric) feat if necessary. Plus, the powers granted by the Oath of Liberation are more distinctive and really shine in battle.

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 introduces a feature called Weapon Mastery, which is also found in the Solasta 2 game. Weapon Mastery lets you choose bonuses during rests that give you extra attack abilities when using specific weapons. Here’s a look at the best Weapon Mastery options for Paladins in Solasta 2:
- Greataxe/Cleave – Paladins can be an extremely deadly class, thanks to Divine Smite. The Cleave Weapon Mastery gives you a free attack against an enemy within melee range after you’ve slain someone. The Greataxe is a two-handed weapon, meaning no shield, but it’s worth it for the damage output.
- Javelin/Slow – The Paladin isn’t really a ranged character, but it’s best to have a backup option. Enter the Javelin, which uses your Strength bonus and has the Slow effect, reducing an enemy’s movement speed, possibly forcing them to Dash to close the distance and burn their turn.
- Longsword/Sap – If the player wants to use a shield, then they should go for the Longsword as their main weapon. The Sap Weapon Mastery causes the enemy they strike to have Disadvantage on its next attack, making it a great and safe pick for bigger enemies.

Paladins don’t focus on casting spells as much as classes like Clerics or Wizards, but they can still use them. This is mainly to power their Smiting spells, which are a key part of what Paladins do. Divine Smite, in particular, now uses spell slots to cast – it was originally too powerful in older versions of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, so it was changed to work this way.
You don’t need to select Divine Smite immediately. You’ll automatically unlock it at Level 2, so it’s best to choose Searing Smite at Level 1 and then just play until you gain the next level.
Paladins in Solasta 2 don’t learn basic cantrips (unless they choose specific Origin Feats), but they do gain access to spells. Currently, in the early access version of the game, they can only learn spells up to level 1. Here are some of the most effective Paladin spells available:

The current Early Access version of Solasta 2 lets characters reach Level 4. At this level, each character can choose one Feat – a special ability that isn’t tied to their class. Here are some of the best Feat choices for Paladins in Solasta 2:
- Ability Score Improvement — As the Paladin is stretched so thin, stat point-wise, it’s smart to allocate Ability Score Improvement to either try to max out Strength or Charisma, or potentially get more benefits from Dexterity and Constitution.
- Eager for Battle — This Feat gives an ability score point, grants Advantage on Initiative checks, and adds 10ft to the Paladin’s movement speed. This is helpful for allowing the Paladin to act quicker and get into the fray sooner, as you’ll want them Smiting as soon as possible.
- Follow-Up Strike — If you’re using a two-handed weapon, pick this Feat, as it lets you spend your Bonus Action to perform a second attack that deals 1d4 + Strength damage.
