Blue Lock is a truly intense sports anime, possibly the most competitive one ever made. It’s based around a program created by Jinpachi Ego, designed to find the best striker in Japan to win the World Cup. He gathers the nation’s most promising young players and puts them in a high-stakes competition where losing means never playing for the national team. To survive, each player must rapidly improve, discover their unique strengths, and ultimately reach a peak mental state known as the Flow Zone.

Flow State is that feeling of being completely immersed in what you’re doing, leading to peak performance and rapid improvement. In Blue Lock, the program intentionally pushes players to their limits, forcing them to compete for their current and future success. While many talented players in Blue Lock reach this state, the question is: who truly masters it?

We’ll only be using characters who’ve already appeared in the anime. Be aware that this discussion may contain spoilers, including events from beyond the end of Blue Lock season 2.

8. Kenyu Yukimiya

Kenyu Yukimiya has a vision impairment called optic neuropathy, but he hasn’t let it hold him back from pursuing his football dreams. He’s considered one of Blue Lock’s top players by Jinpachi and currently plays as an attacking midfielder for Bastard München in Germany.

When Yukimiya enters a flow state, he can rapidly execute his signature move, La Croqueta, breaking through defenses and setting up clear chances to score. He’s a skilled player already, but when he’s fully focused, he becomes nearly unstoppable.

7. Oliver Aiku

The Forward-Turned-Defender

Oliver Aiku once aspired to be a world-class striker, but life had other plans. When his original dream couldn’t come true, he didn’t quit football. Instead, he adapted and became a defender, determined to find success in a new position.

When Aiku is completely focused, he can anticipate weaknesses in his team’s defense, allowing him to disrupt the opposing team and prevent them from scoring.

6. Rensuke Kunigami

You know, I’ve got this dream, and I’m completely dedicated to making it happen – I’ll work hard and play by the rules to achieve it. And honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with chasing after what you want with everything you’ve got!

Similar to other top players, he can get completely absorbed in the game – sometimes intentionally, sometimes not – which helps him direct his team’s attacks. He currently plays as a defensive midfielder for Bastard München, a team representing Germany in the Neo Egoist League.

5. Seishiro Nagi

When Seishiro is completely focused, he achieves incredible feats. For example, during a match between Team White and Team Red, he successfully executed a difficult two-stage fake volley shot under pressure. He then surpassed even that in the Neo Egoist League, scoring with an even more complex five-shot revolver fake volley.

4. Shoei Baro

Currently playing for Bastard München in the Neo Egoist League, he’s considered one of the league’s most influential players.

Isagi first experienced the ‘flow state’ during the initial trials, but didn’t fully understand its impact on his performance until later. As he improved as a player, he began to consciously use it to become more effective.
