Best Powers In One Piece

Haki and Devil Fruits are the main ways characters gain power in One Piece. Devil Fruits are particularly easy to come by and can quickly provide incredible strength, which explains why many of the most powerful characters possess Devil Fruit abilities.

However, One Piece features other abilities that can significantly boost a person’s power. These abilities are sometimes even more rare than Devil Fruits and Haki. Keeping that in mind, here’s a look at some of the best powers found in One Piece. Learn more about each one below.

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Laser Modification

Users: Franky, Pacifista, Seraphim

  • Can cause widespread destruction

Sometimes, One Piece feels like science fiction due to the many advanced technologies shown. Kizaru’s laser abilities are a prime example. Dr. Vegapunk studied Kizaru’s Devil Fruit power and discovered how to integrate those lasers into Pacifista and, eventually, Seraphim.

The lasers are incredibly powerful and can cause a lot of damage. The Pacifista were equipped with these lasers, allowing them to severely damage a large part of the Marine fleet near Egghead Island. Franky also added a laser to his arsenal, and he’s used it repeatedly to inflict significant damage on his enemies. Further details are available here.

Haki

Users: Shanks, Roger, Garp, And Many Others

  • Useful for attacking and defending

Haki is a power that can be developed through intense training. At first, it appeared to be a very uncommon skill, but that changed after the timeskip. Now, most new characters introduced into the story possess at least Armament and Observation Haki. Conqueror’s Haki remains somewhat unique, as it’s an ability people are born with.

There are several kinds of Haki, each with unique abilities. Armament Haki is primarily for offense and defense, letting users strengthen their attacks and protect themselves. Observation Haki focuses on sensing the presence of others and predicting incoming attacks. Lastly, Conqueror’s Haki can overwhelm those with weak wills, even knocking them unconscious, and also boost the power of attacks. Perhaps the most significant benefit of mastering Haki is gaining the ability to harm Devil Fruit users, who are normally immune to conventional attacks.

Devil Fruits

Users: Luffy, Blackbeard, And Many Others

  • Can grant unique abilities

Devil Fruits offer the fastest and simplest path to gaining power. Initially presented as rare and legendary items, accessible to only a select few, this isn’t completely accurate. In reality, Devil Fruits are quite common – that’s why so many characters have them. It’s important to note, however, that certain Devil Fruits are more unique and, therefore, harder to locate. Learn more about Devil Fruits here.

At first, Logia-type Devil Fruits were thought to be the rarest and most powerful, but Mythical Zoan fruits are actually much harder to find. The main drawback of Devil Fruits is simply that you don’t know what ability you’ll gain until after you eat one.

Regeneration

User: Imu, Holy Knights, Gorosei

Regeneration is a recently revealed ability in the final part of the One Piece story, known as the Final Saga. Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, who is a Godhead of Science and Defense, was the first character shown using this power. During the Egghead arc, he suffered multiple injuries, but his ability to regenerate allowed him to fully heal from each one.

After that initial instance, we’ve seen other characters demonstrate this ability. However, it *is* possible to prevent someone from regenerating, as shown when Scopper Gaban injured Sommers. Although Gaban didn’t explain *how* Haki stops regeneration, it’s strongly suggested that Haki is the key. With sufficient mastery, a fighter can overcome their opponent’s regeneration and defeat them.

Ice Oni Virus

User: Queen

  • Spreads quickly and can wipe out a large population

The Ice Oni Virus was developed by Queen and unleashed during the attack on Onigashima. This virus is incredibly dangerous, potentially causing death very quickly – within minutes. When someone contracts the Ice Oni Virus, their body transforms, becoming covered in oni-like features.

I’ve observed that those infected with the virus develop incredible strength and stamina, able to take a lot of punishment. It’s also highly contagious – it spreads quickly between people, which makes crowded areas particularly risky. Unfortunately, the Ice Oni Virus puts a tremendous strain on the body, and ultimately, that leads to fatal consequences.

Immortality

Users: Imu, Gorosei

  • Stops a person from aging

When One Piece first started, I don’t think anyone imagined we’d eventually meet characters who couldn’t die. But over time, Eiichiro Oda has introduced several immortal characters, and Imu Nerona is definitely one of them. I’ve come to understand Imu as the ultimate authority behind the World Government – they’re the one making all the big calls. And let me tell you, disobeying them comes with serious consequences.

Imu’s existence dates back to the Void Century, serving as the strongest evidence of their never-ending life. Furthermore, they possess the ability to bestow their powers – and thus, immortality – onto others. For instance, Saturn appeared to be the same age both during the God Valley and Egghead Incidents, even though 38 years passed between those events. Anyone equipped with immortality and regeneration is incredibly difficult to defeat, unless their opponent understands how to overcome those abilities. It’s a nearly insurmountable advantage.

Controlling Sea Kings

User: Shirahoshi

  • Can destroy islands effortlessly

Sea Kings are perilous creatures living in the Calm Belt. They’re much larger than Navy warships, meaning they can effortlessly sink any ships that come near. While already dangerous individually, Sea Kings become an even greater threat when they work together.

Shirahoshi, the mermaid princess from the Ryugu Kingdom, is actually Poseidon. As fans are aware, Shirahoshi is one of the three Ancient Weapons, known as Poseidon. She has the unique ability to communicate with and command the Sea Kings. We first saw her use this power during the Fishman Island arc, though she wasn’t yet able to control it completely. It’s safe to say that if Shirahoshi masters her abilities, she could easily obliterate entire kingdoms.
