As a seasoned survivor who has braved the foggy realms of “Dead by Daylight”, I must say that each realm holds its own unique charm and challenges. However, some stand out more than others, and for me, Mount Ormond takes the cake!

The survival horror game, “Dead by Daylight,” is consistently expanding, adding fresh killers and survivors through downloadable content (DLC). Each DLC introduction features either a new killer, survivor, or both, and occasionally introduces a new map for all players to explore, even those who haven’t purchased the DLC.

These maps function as arenas for every contest, and most of them originate from a realm that contains multiple versions of the same or very similar map. Some of these maps might already be known to enthusiasts of specific games or films. With numerous realms available for transportation, it can prove challenging to determine which ones are the top picks.

9. Macmillan Estate

Decently Balanced for Both Sides

Among the initial maps included in the base game, the Macmillan Estate has proven to be one of the enduringly popular choices due to its basic yet secure design. The dilapidated ironworks and crumbling buildings lend an authentic, gritty feel to the map, without veering too far into fantastical elements. This setting, with its ominous air, could easily host a cunning and ruthless killer, one who might set deadly bear traps for unsuspecting victims.

Since its initial launch, there have been several updates that enhanced both the map symmetry and visual appeal. Among these updates was the introduction of the Skull Merchant, which transformed one version of Macmillan into a series of maps filled with mannequins surrounding a workshop. This change added to the aesthetics without significantly disrupting the balance.

8. Lery’s Memorial Estate

This Indoor Map is a Medical Horror

In Dead by Daylight, the first map entirely set indoors, known as Lery’s, is an intriguing setting that serves as the domain of The Doctor. Featuring a central room filled with attention-grabbing and noisy monitors, along with a maze of corridors and interconnected rooms, Lery’s offers numerous engaging elements. However, some killers may find it frustrating when assigned to this map.

In less populated areas, marksmen-type characters like Huntress may find it challenging to throw their hatchets accurately, giving survivors a chance to dodge out of harm’s way. Conversely, stealthy killers, particularly those such as the mirrored Michael Myers, can greatly leverage walls and obstacles in crowded environments, using them as opportunities to surprise and scare all the survivors.

7. Yamaoka Estate

Home to the Spirit and Oni

The Yamoaka Estate is divided into two areas: Sanctum of Wrath and Family Residence, each under the control of the Oni and Spirit respectively. These regions, inspired by the countryside of Japan, offer stunning landscapes that players might catch a glimpse of as they dash to safety.

The Family Residence boasts an expansive home, once charming but now untouched by the enigma, and within the Sanctum of Wrath lies a grand temple at its core, encircled by stone effigies that swiftly turn to gaze upon you the moment your attention wavers. And if the Yamaoka Estate wasn’t unsettling enough already…

6. Midwich Elementary School

Explore the Eerie School from Silent Hill

As a hardcore horror game enthusiast, I never thought that Behavior Interactive would amass horror movie intellectual properties like a kid chasing after Pokemon cards. Frankly, it was unforeseen when they’d team up with developers to incorporate characters and settings from their games, especially Konami – who, until recently, seemed content leaving the iconic Silent Hill in a state of limbo. But boy, were we surprised when they spilled the beans about Cheryl Mason, Pyramid Head, and Midwich Elementary joining the foggy townscape! Each addition was met with excitement and proved to be a massive success in the gaming community.

With two distinct levels, hidden surprises (known as easter eggs), and a secret area that becomes accessible upon unlocking it, Midwich offers numerous engaging elements – all while you’re scrambling to locate the generator, which might be situated on an entirely different story. Navigating this map may require some practice, but the wealth of intricate details is undeniably impressive, even for those unfamiliar with the Silent Hill series.

5. Raccoon City Police Department

From Resident Evil 2 Fame

The collaboration between Resident Evil and another iconic video game IP, Silent Hill, generated a great deal of anticipation and celebration among players. The initial crossover event introduced characters such as Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, the Nemesis, and the Raccoon City Police Department, while showcasing numerous well-known rooms and locations that fans would recognize from the original game, all shrouded in the familiar fog.

Originally, the issue with the map lay in its extensive scale; Behavior aimed to include numerous renowned landmarks within it. Ultimately, the police department was divided into two sectors – east and west wings – to create a more manageable map without compromising on any iconic vistas.

4. Coldwind Farm

Takes Inspiration from Films Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Despite being part of the initial game package, these maps are far from ordinary, particularly following the updates that significantly boosted their usability. Drawing clear inspiration from films like “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, Coldwind versions boast towering cornfields, abattoirs, and expansive farmhouses – ideal for either concealing oneself or tracking down an adversary.

The rework brought light to the realm, and while this made these maps less frightening, sneaky killers can still cause tension, and the light gives bonus visibility to both sides of the trial. Coldwind remains one of the most famous and all-around best realms in the entire game.

3. Decimated Borgo

Home to the Dungeons and Dragons Map

Enhancing the medieval ambiance in the game, Decimated Borgo offers an authentic touch that was previously missing. Initially designed as an independent domain for the Knight, it showcases a vibrant red map modeled after a medieval town, complete with drawbridges serving as exit points from this realm.

On its own, Decimated Borgo would earn a lot of praise, but incorporating a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired map took it to another level, even surpassing the initial one. This new map showcases a captivating purple arcane room, jump-through portals for quick escapes, and an imprisoned beholder that reacts aggressively to any approaching survivor, giving it a distinct Dungeons & Dragons feel and making it unique among other maps.

2. The Grave of Glenvale

Plenty of Western Goodness

In an unexpected twist for fans, a spaghetti western-themed setting may not have been anticipated within Dead by Daylight, but the Grave of Glenvale map certainly brings a generous dose of Wild West ambiance amidst the mist. Accompanying the Deathslinger character, this layout showcases a captivating sunset backdrop, numerous wooden structures like buildings and sheds, prickly cacti, and at its heart, a saloon.

In this world, only Dead Dawg Saloon has been charted so far, but no other map comes close to matching the original when it comes to being entertaining, visually appealing, and filled with walls that provide exciting and tricky pursuits for both killers and survivors. Despite some flaws and perhaps not everyone finding its theme appealing, Grave of Glenvale still stands as one of the top realms in the entire game.

1. Mount Ormond

A Survivor Sided Snow-Capped Resort

Among the game’s maps, Mount Ormond stands as an older addition, debuting concurrently with the Legion quarter of characters, including survivor Jeff. It was the third map to incorporate weather effects and remains unique as the sole one showcasing snow. While it initially functions as a resort, survivors will find limited comfort here under the relentless pursuit of a ruthless killer wandering the grounds, aiming to eliminate them.

The map has a reputation for favoring survivors, boasting numerous powerful loop locations, exceptional vantage points, and a central generator situated within a colossal structure that adept survivors can use to evade killers for extended periods. However, the open layout of much of the map also makes it advantageous for ranged killers due to its design featuring Mount Ormond.
