In 2025, gamers can look forward to expansive open-world titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Ghost of Yotei, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, all offering tons of gameplay. While lengthy games are fun, sometimes it’s nice to find a more compact experience you can finish over a weekend.
While it’s technically possible to finish any game in a weekend if you skip sleep, it’s definitely not a good idea! Realistically, most people have around twelve to twenty hours for gaming over the weekend. So, let’s explore some games that are easily completable within that timeframe, covering a variety of genres.
Resident Evil 3 (2020)
STARS…
- How Long To Beat: About 6 Hours
Whether you play the original PlayStation version or the newer remake, Resident Evil 3 is consistently ranked among the most frightening entries in the Resident Evil series. It’s a fast-paced game where you control Jill Valentine as she tries to survive the destruction of Raccoon City, evading both hordes of zombies and a relentless, powerful enemy known as Nemesis.
If you’re a horror fan looking for a straightforward, suspenseful Resident Evil experience without a lot of complicated puzzles, this is the game for you. The story mode is easy to get through, and players who enjoy it can replay it on New Game+ to earn even more items with each playthrough.
Titanfall 2
An Underrated FPS Classic
- How Long To Beat: About 6 Hours
Titanfall 2, originally released in 2016, deserves more recognition, and renewed interest could help make a sequel happen. The game uniquely lets you switch between playing as a skilled soldier named Jack and his intelligent mech, BT, all while navigating incredibly well-crafted levels – some of the best ever seen in a first-person shooter.
Like most shooting games, Titanfall 2‘s campaign is fast-paced and focuses on action – you’ll mostly be aiming, shooting, and staying alive. Luckily, even though it came out almost ten years ago, it still runs well on most computers. The game is short, straightforward, doesn’t require any repetitive tasks, and is often available at a very low price, making it easy to try out this exciting game with giant robots.
Gears Of War: Reloaded
Cover Shooting At Its Best
- How Long To Beat: About 7 Hours
If you enjoy shooter games where you take cover instead of seeing things from a first-person view, Gears of War is essential. Even now, it’s the best cover shooter to experience, and Gears of War: Reloaded improves the game with a smoother campaign. Plus, it’s now available on PlayStation for the first time.
The game features straightforward levels where you lead a team to fight through enemy bases, using weapons like guns, chainsaws, and grenades. You can also find hidden secrets to unlock extras like concept art, and the game supports cooperative play, letting you team up with a friend either online or locally.
Until Dawn
Survive The Night
- How Long To Beat: About 8 Hours
Until Dawn is a horror game that focuses heavily on storytelling. Unlike many games in the genre, it doesn’t require a lot of skill – you mostly guide characters through the story with minimal puzzles, combat, or repetitive tasks.
What makes Until Dawn stand out, beyond its scary atmosphere, is that any of the characters you control can die based on your choices – a wrong turn, a bad line of dialogue, and they’re gone. These deaths affect the story, but it is possible to save everyone if you’re careful and make good decisions. You can finish the game in a single long session, or maybe two, and with different endings, there’s plenty of reason to play through it again.
Devil May Cry 5
An Action-Based Threeway
- How Long To Beat: About 11 Hours
Devil May Cry 5 is an exciting action game known for its over-the-top style, humor, and lasting appeal. The game takes you through direct, level-by-level challenges where you’ll battle monsters in various arenas. You can play as three distinct characters – Nero, V, and Dante – each with their own unique abilities. The game frequently switches between these characters, keeping the gameplay fresh and preventing any single character from overshadowing the others.
The game has hidden secrets for players who like to explore, but they aren’t required to enjoy the main action-packed experience. You can beat the game without repetitive tasks, though some boss fights are challenging. The exciting combat system encourages players to try different approaches, and often leads to impressive animations and satisfying enemy takedowns.
Astro Bot
Beyond Whimsy
- How Long To Beat: About 11 Hours
Astro Bot is a fantastic game only available on the PS5, offering everything players love in a modern 3D platformer. It features creative and fast-paced levels, precise controls, and unique abilities. Players guide Astro Bot through a variety of themed galaxies, unlocking new levels as they play.
The game also includes optional side levels with quick, two- to three-minute challenges for players who want a bit more of a test. Finding all the collectibles in the main levels might require replaying a level or two, but that’s the most repetitive thing you’ll do in Astro Bot. Otherwise, the levels within each galaxy are enjoyable and create a warm, nostalgic feeling, especially with all the hidden references to other PlayStation games.
Tomb Raider (2013)
An Adventurous Reboot
- How Long To Beat: About 11.5 Hours
I think the 2013 Tomb Raider is the perfect way to get into the series, especially if you’ve never played before. But it’s also a really substantial game if you want something to really sink your teeth into for a whole weekend! You play as a younger Lara Croft who gets stranded on an island full of pirates, and everyone’s after the same treasure. You start off totally vulnerable, but as you play, you get to upgrade Lara’s gear. Things like a grappling hook that lets you smash through walls and swing around are awesome, and eventually you get a bow and arrow that makes taking down enemies so much easier.
This game feels like a 3D Metroidvania, meaning you’ll find keys and tools that open up new areas – many of which are side routes you can explore. The main story path is straightforward and well-explained, but players who want a more complete experience can really dive in and discover everything the game has to offer.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Big Boss Begins
- How Long To Beat: About 12 Hours
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a complete remake of the classic PlayStation 2 game. It keeps the original story intact but updates the controls to feel more natural for today’s players. While the game takes place in a large jungle environment with some opportunities to revisit areas, it generally follows a straightforward, linear path.
I love how this game lets me really feel like a stealth operative. I can carefully sneak through jungles and bases, using camo and non-lethal weapons to stay hidden and avoid a messy fight. Sure, I could just run in guns blazing – and the game lets me! – but that totally misses the point. This is Big Boss’s origin story, and it’s all about mastering stealth. It’s a long game, definitely, but the story and the gameplay are so deep and rewarding, it makes every minute worth it.
