Damiane is the second character you can play in Crimson Desert. She might appear similar to Kliff initially, but she’s a more skilled fighter who relies on speed and technique rather than brute strength. Because Damiane has a unique skill tree, you’ll need to unlock all of her abilities separately. Since progress in Crimson Desert depends on collecting Abyss Artifacts – which can be slow to obtain – it’s important to carefully choose which of Damiane’s skills to unlock first.
Best Skills for Damiane in Crimson Desert
A great benefit of playing as Damiane (and Oongka) is that any improvements you make to their Health, Spirit, and Stamina using Abyss Artifacts will be permanent. You also won’t need to unlock Damiane’s Quick Swap skill, as it’s already available through her Armed Combat training.
Armed Combat (Level 2)
Increasing your Armed Combat skill boosts the damage you do with weapons, making it a smart upgrade for any character. If you’re focusing on Damiane, though, we suggest raising her Armed Combat to at least level 2. This unlocks her Evasive Smite ability, letting her attack with a beam of light while quickly moving backward.
Moves like these help you stay ahead in battle. Damiane’s Evasive Smite lets her move a little further than Kliff’s, making it ideal for her quick, strategic style of fighting.
If you have the skill points to spare, get Armed Combat to level up to maximize your damage output.
Smiting Strike
As a Kliff fan, I’m really excited about Smiting Strike! It’s basically his version of Turning Slash, and it’s a super powerful attack that uses Spirit. The best part is, the more you level it up, the better it gets – you unlock some awesome bonuses!
- Smiting Strike 2 (Proficiency) lets you perform an additional Smiting Strike in the same attack chain.
- Smiting Strike 3 (Rend Armor) causes your hits with this ability to ignore Super Armor, allowing you to interrupt the attacks of certain enemies.
Improving this skill won’t directly increase its damage, but it will unlock more powerful combo possibilities and give you more options in challenging fights.
Sword Flurry (Rapier)
Damiane is known for her quickness, and her Sword Flurry ability perfectly demonstrates this. It allows her to attack and dodge sideways at the same time. Once upgraded to level 2, she can use Sword Flurry an extra time, which is ideal for evading attacks that can’t be stopped except with her level 3 Smiting Strike.
All of Damiane’s weapons have different versions of Sword Flurry, and they all function as counterattacks. This means you’ll always have access to this ability, no matter which weapon you choose.

Piercing Light (Level 2)
Reaching the second level of Piercing Light gives you access to the Uppercut ability. This is great for managing groups of enemies, and it works well with our next suggestion. You can use Uppercut right after landing a charged Piercing Light, and the best part is that these piercing attacks can be charged immediately while you’re performing a regular attack combo.
Piercing Light 2 introduces the Skewer ability, activated by continuing to hold the forward movement button after a charged stab. This is primarily a way to quickly escape dangerous situations, especially when you’re surrounded by enemies.
Damiane can use Uppercut and Skewer only when fighting with a Rapier or when wielding two weapons. Unlocking Piercing Light 2 will give you new moves for Greatswords and Spears.
Grappling (Level 5)
Reaching Grappling level 5 unlocks the Aerial Grapple, letting you seamlessly transition from an Uppercut into a Screwdriver finisher (which becomes available at Grappling level 3). Combining Piercing Light, Uppercut, and Screwdriver is a particularly rewarding and effective move with Damiane, and it’s especially helpful when fighting tougher enemies.
The Grappling skill is really useful for controlling groups of enemies, stopping their attacks, briefly becoming invincible, and dealing with opponents who are guarding or using shields. Increasing your Grappling skill unlocks Damiane’s powerful Lariat attacks and the Back Hang ability, which is crucial for defeating trolls and other big enemies.
If you’re planning to use a lot of grappling techniques, unlock Tornado Kick next. It flows well into the Screwdriver move, creating a powerful combo.
Shield Toss (Level 2) & Shield Sentinel
Damiane doesn’t excel at attacks that hit multiple enemies like Kliff and Oongka do, but her Shield Toss ability lets her hit several foes with a single, bouncing attack. Improving Shield Toss to level 2 not only lets it hit more enemies – up to five instead of three – but also unlocks a much more powerful ability called Shield Sentinel.
Shield Sentinel transforms Damiane’s shield into a mobile weapon. Once activated, the shield will orbit around her, automatically attacking enemies with energy blasts and boosting her damage output. This ability is particularly effective against bosses, who can withstand more damage than typical enemies.
Shield Sentinel also requires both Shield Toss 2 and Focus 2.
Focused Shot (Level 3)
Upgrading the Focus Shot skill unlocks the following:
- Focused Evasive Shot lets you fire a Focused Shot while dodging.
- Focused Charged Shot lets you fire a volley of bullets while aiming Focused Shot or while using Charged Shot.
You don’t have to rely on long-distance attacks, but these upgrades will make dealing with quick or flying enemies—like the Antumbra mages—much easier. Any time you use a Focused Shot ability, it will briefly slow down time, letting you aim carefully for a precise shot.
Magic and Imbue Element
In Crimson Desert, players can learn elemental magic by solving special puzzles called Abyss puzzles. Once you’ve learned any elemental magic, you’ll then be able to unlock the Imbue Element skill.
Learning magic skills significantly expands your combat options and makes you much more powerful. Even just using Imbue Element can dramatically increase your damage, particularly when combined with skills like Smiting Strike and Fire or Lightning damage.
