Best SMGs in BF6

Submachine guns are powerful weapons in Battlefield 6 because they fire rapidly and are easy to control. They excel in close-range combat, being more user-friendly than assault rifles or carbines. However, their bullets travel slower, making it harder to hit targets at a distance, especially if they’re moving.

Battlefield 6 features a variety of SMGs, and to help you find the best one for how you like to play, we’ve ranked them all. This list compares each SMG based on how well it performs its specific role.

Best Submachine Guns in Battlefield 6

Mid Range
  1. PW5A3
  2. PW7A2
  3. SL9
  4. UMG-40
Close Range
  1. KV9
  2. SGX
  3. USG-90
  4. SCW-10

This SMG ranking is a bit different from our others. SMGs in Battlefield 6 perform very differently depending on how they’re meant to be used – some are best up close, while others work better at medium range. Because of this, it wouldn’t be fair to compare all SMGs together. So, we’ve split this list into two, categorizing SMGs by their effective range.

Best Mid Range SMGs in Battlefield 6

Currently, the game features four submachine guns considered mid-range weapons. These SMGs all have very stable recoil, good accuracy even when firing continuously, and can quickly eliminate enemies within a 40-meter range.

PW5A3

The PW5A3 is considered the top SMG in BF6 due to its simple handling. When equipped with the right attachments, it becomes incredibly accurate and powerful at close to medium distances. Plus, you can unlock the best attachments for the PW5A3 relatively quickly in BF6, making it a strong choice early in the game.

While all mid-range SMGs are solid choices, the PW5A3 really shines in close-up fights. It’s the most adaptable weapon in its class and is expected to remain a top performer.

PW7A2

As a player, I’ve been testing this SMG, and it feels *really* close to the PW5A3. The recoil is almost identical, and it kills just as fast! At 10 meters and further, you can take down enemies just as quickly as with the PW5. The numbers back it up too – it has a time-to-kill of 0.31 seconds up close, and 0.38 at 40 meters. Honestly, both guns have incredibly low recoil, so in most situations, they feel pretty much the same.

The PW7A2’s main weakness is its rate of fire. It fires quickly at 971 rounds per minute, with damage ranging from about 16.5 to 14 per shot. This means it takes 6-7 bullets to eliminate an enemy, making it use slightly more ammo than other similar weapons. However, this isn’t a major issue, as both PW SMGs can use 40-round magazines and Synthetic Tips to help with ammo capacity.

The PW7A2 boasts the fastest bullet speed of any SMG, making it simpler to hit enemies on the move at medium distances compared to other similar weapons.

SL9

The SL9 has a slower firing rate compared to the other two weapons, but it barely has any recoil, even without any added attachments. It deals roughly the same amount of damage as the PW5A3 – at any given range, both weapons will hit for the same amount. However, this slower firing rate makes the SL9 less effective in a quick firefight; it takes 0.35 seconds to eliminate a target at 10 meters, and 0.53 seconds at 80 meters.

Okay, so the SL9 is seriously accurate. What I’ve noticed in BF6 is it doesn’t have as much bullet spread when you’re firing, which is awesome. That means I can actually lay down consistent fire at medium distances, unlike some other SMGs where everything just goes everywhere after a few shots.

UMG-40

The UMG-40 is the slowest-firing SMG in BF6, but it can hit targets accurately from the furthest distance. It can eliminate an enemy with six body shots at 60 meters, giving it a quick time-to-kill of 0.47 seconds. While that may not sound impressive, its exceptional accuracy when firing continuously allows it to compete with, and even surpass, carbines and assault rifles in engagements between 40 and 60 meters, all without needing to fire in short bursts.

The UMG-40 is best suited for medium-range combat, around 40 to 60 meters, which limits its usefulness compared to other weapons. While it *can* be used in close-quarters battles, you’ll likely lose a gunfight unless you consistently hit headshots.

Best Close Range SMGs in Battlefield 6

Close Range SMGs are designed for intense, close-quarters combat. They excel at short distances, often outperforming other weapons in these situations. However, their effectiveness drops significantly when engaging moving targets at longer ranges.

KV9

Okay, so if we’re talking about straight-up damage, the KV9 SMG is a monster in Battlefield 6. Seriously, it fires at 1080 RPM and hits for 25 damage, meaning you can drop someone in just 0.16 seconds – it’s the fastest weapon for TTK outside of shotguns and snipers. And the best part? The recoil is super manageable, so I can actually land consistent bursts even at a bit of a distance. It’s a beast!

The KV9’s biggest weakness is its small magazine. It starts with only 17 bullets, and even the largest magazine you can get only holds 27. This makes getting multiple kills difficult, and because the KV9 fires so quickly, inaccurate aiming can easily waste its limited ammunition.

SGX

The SGX is a top-performing SMG for close-quarters combat. It’s easy to control thanks to its low recoil, and it’s accurate and satisfying to fire. In Battlefield 6, it can eliminate enemies just as quickly as the popular M433, which is known for being excellent in close-range fights.

Honestly, the SGX is a fantastic weapon! I’ve been using it even in mid-range fights and it works surprisingly well if you learn to tap-fire. The only real downside is the bullet speed – it’s tough to hit targets at long distances, anything over 40 meters is a real challenge. And yeah, the reload *is* pretty slow, that’s definitely something you need to keep in mind.

USG-90

Although the USG-90 isn’t as immediately deadly as some other guns like the KV9 and SGX, it compensates with a large 50-round magazine. This gun is built for quickly taking down multiple enemies in a row, making it especially useful on the smaller maps in *Battlefield 6* when you’re facing waves of opponents.

The USG-90 has a stronger recoil than other SMGs, making it harder to control, even when firing in short bursts at longer ranges. Plus, you can’t add a foregrip to help stabilize it, which limits how much you can reduce the recoil.

SCW-10

The SCW-10 is the most powerful submachine gun in the game. It’s unique because it can kill enemies with just three body shots, dealing up to 33.4 damage. However, this only works at extremely close range – about 5 to 8 meters. Beyond that, it will take four body shots to eliminate a target.

While the SCW-10 can quickly eliminate opponents with just four bullets, its biggest weakness is its limited ammunition capacity. It starts with a 15-round magazine, and even upgraded, it only holds a maximum of 25 rounds. Reaching that larger magazine size requires reaching Rank 25, meaning players will spend a significant amount of time with a very small magazine. Adding to the problem, the SCW-10 reloads relatively slowly – 2.6 seconds – which is comparable to the SGX and SL9.
