Spider-Man is a truly legendary superhero, and because he’s remained so popular, his enemies have also become well-known. These villains each offer unique challenges, constantly keeping Spider-Man busy as he works to keep New York City safe.
Spider-Man fans are really drawn to some of his villains, and many of them would jump at the chance to play as those villains in their own video game. Their backstories and journeys towards becoming anti-heroes could create a really engaging game.
Venom
Spider-Man’s Archnemesis Is No Joke

- Real Name: Eddie Brock
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #252
The fact that Venom got its own movie shows just how popular the character is with audiences. As one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, photographer Eddie Brock becomes obsessed with the power of a strange alien symbiote, allowing Venom to take over and become incredibly dangerous.
Players have gotten to control Venom in games like *Ultimate Spider-Man* and *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2*, but a dedicated Venom game would be fantastic, largely because of his incredible power.
Black Cat
An Antihero That Spider-Man Has A Love-Hate Relationship With

- Real Name: Felicia Hardy
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #194
Black Cat is a famous thief with a complicated romantic history with Spider-Man. Her obsession with all things glittering explains her memorable name. She pulls off incredible heists using amazing technology, constantly challenging Spider-Man.
A video game centered around Black Cat, featuring stealth, thievery, and heists, would be a compelling idea. It’s overdue for a female character – whether hero or villain – to lead a major superhero game, and with the cancellation of the planned *Wonder Woman* game, there’s a clear opportunity for a game starring a female superhero like Black Cat.
Green Goblin
His Glider And Explosives Would Make Him A Fun Character To Control

- Real Name: Norman Osborn
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #14
The Green Goblin is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic enemies. Behind the villain’s frightening persona is Norman Osborn, a seemingly respectable man. An accident during an experiment dramatically increased Norman’s aggression and strength, turning him into a dangerous menace to New York City.
The Green Goblin would be incredibly fun to play as in an open-world game focused on destruction, thanks to his glider and arsenal of explosives. While it would be difficult to portray him as a hero, not every playable villain needs to be good. Sometimes, it’s just enjoyable to cause trouble.
Doctor Octopus
Manipulating His Robotic Limbs To Smash Enemies And Climb Walls Sounds Like A Great Time

Real Name: Dr. Otto Octavius
First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #3
Dr. Otto Octavius is a driven scientist with big ideas, but he struggles to find funding. When investors turn down his robotic arm technology, he decides to attach the arms to himself as a demonstration. Unfortunately, this causes him to lose control, and the arms begin to control him instead.
Doc Ock typically tries to get money to fund his dangerous experiments, which could make for engaging gameplay. A unique way to control his mechanical arms would be key to making a Doc Ock game truly stand out.
Lizard
Who Wouldn’t Love To Beat Down Foes As A Giant Lizard?

- Real Name: Dr. Curt Connors
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #6
Dr. Connor attempted to regrow his arm using lizard DNA, but the experiment went horribly right. Instead of just restoring his limb, he fully transformed into a Lizard, forcing him to operate from the shadows as he pursues his objectives.
Playing as this powerful creature – whether he’s trying to make amends or causing chaos in New York City – would be really fun. It could be interesting if the character, Doctor Connor, could briefly transform back into his human form against a ticking clock, before inevitably becoming the Lizard again.
Scorpion
His Super-Powered Suit Makes Him A Tough Nut For Spider-Man To Crack

- Real Name: Mac Gargan
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #19
Mac Gargan was a private investigator who took a job from J. Jonah Jameson, but his life went downhill when Jameson made him participate in a dangerous experiment. This turned Gargan into the Scorpion, and now he’s filled with rage, determined to destroy both Spider-Man and Jameson.
A game centered around Jameson trying to undo the mutation that created the creature he’s become could be really engaging. It would also be a great way to showcase his intense hatred for Spider-Man, and how far he’s willing to go to get revenge, even if it means destroying someone’s life.
Vulture
Flying Around An Open-World Map In The Vulture Suit Sounds Like A Great Time

- Real Name: Adrian Tooms
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #2
Spider-Man: Homecoming featured a fantastic performance by Michael Keaton as the Vulture. This villain, equipped with a flying armored suit, proves to be a formidable opponent for Spider-Man. Many viewers have even admitted to secretly wishing they could experience the thrill of flying as the Vulture themselves.
Playing as the Vulture in an open-world game, with both close-quarters and flying combat, would be incredibly fun. Since multiple characters have used the Vulture name in the comics, the game could even feature several different Vultures to play as.
Carnage
Another Iconic Symbiote Who Deserves More Love In The Realm Of Video Games

- Real Name: Cletus Cassidy
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #360
Controlling any of Spider-Man’s Symbiote enemies would be fantastic, and Carnage is a particularly exciting choice. Being Venom’s offspring adds to his appeal as a playable character, and the possibility of fighting both Venom and Spider-Man makes for a compelling game concept.
Okay, look, Carnage is seriously unhinged, but honestly, characters like Trevor Philips in *GTA 5* prove people *like* playing as the bad guy sometimes! That’s why I think Carnage would be an amazing protagonist for a game. And imagine if he teamed up with Venom? Seriously, that could be one of the coolest, most intense villain-focused games we’ve seen in ages!
