Finding Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is quite different now. Players will need to learn some new rules and strategies before they start trying to get the Shiny Charm and collect rare, colorful Pokémon.
Looking for the best places to find rare, shiny Pokémon in Lumiose City? This guide shows you the top spots and the latest techniques to help you succeed with shiny hunting.
Larvitar & Ralts (Wild Zone 15 Save Trick)
Head to Cafe Kizuna on Hibernal Avenue and find the Holovator nearby. Make sure you have a chronometer – like a phone or smartwatch – then go up to the rooftop. Break the Spinarak Web on the left to reach a small Holo Fence where three Spawn are located. Attack all the Larvitar in the area and defeat them using a powerful move like Earthquake or Dragon Rush.
Okay, so here’s how I do this Shiny Larvitar hunt. It’s all about timing! You have to start this process right when the Larvitar disappears, and immediately hit start on your timer. Then, at 1 minute and 49 seconds exactly, you have to save. After that, new Larvitars will appear. If you’re lucky and see a Shiny one, catch it! But if not, you’ve gotta reset your save and try again. It’s a bit of a grind, but you just keep repeating those steps until you finally get that Shiny Larvitar!
To find a Shiny Ralts, try the small garden in Jaune Sector 5 (south of where the Larvitar appears). There are two Ralts that spawn there, and they reappear every 2 minutes and 15 to 30 seconds. Find the timing that works best and keep trying this method until you get a Shiny Ralts!
Goomy, Skrelp, Magikarp, Inkay & Noibat (Sewer Door Trick)
Head to Magenta Sector 8 and find Saison Canal on Magenta Street, close to the Pokémon Center. Go down the stairs and locate the Sewer Access Door. Once you’re there, face the river – you should see two places where Magikarp appear. If it’s raining, you’ll also find two Goomy or Sliggoo.
To reset Pokémon in the area, stand facing the river and quickly press and release the ‘A’ button while interacting with the stick. This will allow you to enter and exit the Sewers, which resets all Pokémon within a 50-meter radius, both inside and outside the Sewers. This technique is useful for finding shiny versions of Pokémon like Magikarp, Goomy, and those found within the Sewers – Skrelp, Noibat, Ariados, and Inkay.
Dratini Hotspots & Fast Shiny
First, head to Restaurant Le Nah. Once you arrive, turn left, go up the stairs, and find the Dratini that appears on the roof. Then, repeatedly enter and exit the restaurant’s door – about 50 times – to reset the area. This increases your chances of finding a Shiny Dratini. There’s also a small chance – around 0.5% – that you might find a rare, Shiny Alpha Dratini.
Head to the designated area, then find the small triangular plaza nearby. Climb the scaffolding there, and carefully cross the rooftop towards the northeast, avoiding the Scrafty that appears. Cross the bridge and look for the Dratini on the other side. Return to the bridge, cross over to where the Dratini is, and then go back to the original zone. You’ll notice the area has changed from Area 8 to Area 9. Repeat this process of moving between the areas to increase your chances of finding a shiny Dratini.
Beldum, Houndour & Honedge (Teleport Trick)

To increase your chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon, visit Lysandre Cafe and head down to Lysandre Labs. Stand on the Teleporter pad at the entrance to refresh the Pokémon spawn points. Repeat this process between 20 and 70 times for a higher probability of encountering a Shiny Hondour, Honedge, or Beldum.
After teleporting, players can find Honedge and Doublade in the next room. To the left of the entrance is where Hondour and Houndoom appear. In the Purple Zone, Beldum and Metang spawn in the room furthest to the east.
Central Plaza (True AFK Tower Trick)
Get a rubber band and a controller, then head to . Once there, go to the tower on the left and avoid the Alpha Litleo that appears. Climb the tower and defeat the Alpha Fledgling, then you’ll be ready to try some easy, hands-off Shiny Hunting.
Turn to face the front of the tower, with the stairs behind the trainer. Secure the movement stick down with the rubber band. Ensure your character repeatedly enters and exits the tower. Now, take a break – brew some coffee and come back later. Once you’re back, remove the rubber band and draw a circle with a 50-meter radius around the tower.
This update changes where you find Litleo, Skiddo, Flabébé, Pancham, and Espurr in Zone 3, as well as Fletching, Vivillion, Scatterbug, Pidgey, Cleffa, Swirlix, Spritzee, and Budew in the shopping area and on rooftops. You’ll have a better chance of finding Shiny Pokémon! Just remember to use Stealth when trying to catch Budew, Pidgey, and Fletching, as they tend to run away.
