In the game Mewgenics, cats are central to everything you do. They fight in battles and are essential for becoming more powerful. Each night, you can breed your strongest cats to create a new generation that will help you on future quests. However, once you have four cats who have finished adventuring, they’ll retire and can no longer battle. What you do with these retired cats in Mewgenics depends on their individual qualities.
What Should You Do with Retired Cats in Mewgenics?
When a cat retires, you can either keep them as a pet or give them to different characters in the game. What you choose to do with each retired cat depends on a few simple questions you’ll need to answer.
- Do they have high stats and good abilities?
- Do they meet the requirements of each NPC to donate them?
Retired cats are marked with a small crown next to their name, like you see in the image. This makes it simple to spot them, particularly if you have a lot of cats!
When to Keep Retired Cats in Your Home
First, evaluate how strong your cat is. If it has excellent skills and stats – basically, if it’s a top-quality cat – you should keep it around. Here’s why: kittens tend to inherit their parents’ strengths, meaning this cat’s offspring will likely be powerful and skilled too. The more strong, retired cats you have, the better the kittens you’ll get each day.
Also, don’t dismiss your retired cats just because they’re no longer adventuring. Later in the game, you’ll face challenging battles at home that require your retired cats to help. If you retire your best fighters, you might not have enough strength for these encounters, so it’s best to keep them around for when you need them.
When to Donate Cats to NPCs
Once you’ve sorted through your retired cats, you’ll need to see which ones fit what each character in Mewgenics is looking for. Tink can’t accept any cats because he only wants kittens. Here’s what the other characters need in a cat donation:
- Butch: Cats that have gone out on adventures. He wants 20 for each ‘milestone,’ on a run. As you tick off one area, he’ll then ask for cats that have adventured in areas even farther from home. Butch offers inventory upgrades each time you fulfill his cat donation quota.
- Baby Jack: Cats that have got injuries. These injuries can be picked up from battles on adventures, or fighting among cats in your house. Baby Jack rewards you by selling furniture that allows you to breed better cats, in turn allowing you to get further on a run.
- Frank: Any retired cat. This makes Frank a great option for getting rid of cats that haven’t reached certain areas that Butch requires, and aren’t particularly strong. He adds rooms to your house, which helps you hold more cats.
- Tracy: Any cat that is aged five or older. Tracy is a good option for cats that used to be some of your strongest, but have fallen down the pecking order as you’ve progressed through the game. Tracy gives you blank collars and food storage upgrades, so she’s well worth donating cats to.
- Dr Beanies: Any cat that has a mutation. These can be quite hard to come by initially, so this isn’t an overly high priority for progressing through the game. He does reward you with side quest items that can get you strong rewards, but they also have challenging requirements to properly unlock.
Basically, I suggest you keep your oldest, retired cats at home and then give to each of the characters whenever a cat fits what they’re looking for.
I always try to give retired cats who need care to Baby Jack first, as he helps me with my breeding program. After that, I offer them to Frank, Butch, and Tracy if I can. Dr. Beanies is a last option because the rewards for donating cats to him often come with drawbacks that you have to address first.
