Highlights

  • Black Cat from Spider-Man 2 The Movie game is the most popular and has great charm and design.
  • She collaborates with Spidey to defeat villains and shows a softer side towards him in this universe.
  • Voiced by Holly Fields, she has spicy dialogues with Tobey McGuire’s Spider-Man, adding depth to their relationship.

As a seasoned comic book enthusiast and moviegoer, I must say that both versions of Black Cat are truly captivating in their own unique ways. The Black Cat from Earth-TRN376, with her mysterious past and cunning nature, offers a fresh take on the character that is both intriguing and engaging. Her obsession with Spider-Man adds an extra layer of tension and complexity to their interactions, making for some thrilling moments in this alternate reality.

Every superhero typically has an adversary, and some may even be fortunate enough to encounter a recurring love interest. However, Black Cat stands out as more than just these for Spider-Man, which is why she’s become one of Marvel’s most renowned characters and a highly sought-after romantic pairing by Spider-Man fans.

There are a lot of alternate versions of Felicia Hardy’s Second Nature, and this ranked list has the six best versions of the characters that appear in several Spider-Man Games, with information on their background stories, universes, and their relationship with their respective Spidey.

6 Spider-Man Friend Or Foe

The Second Most Faithful To The Original Design

  • Universe: Earth-71002
  • Status: Alive

In essence, the Black Cat in our current storyline shares the same identity as the one featured in the ’90s Spider-Man animated series, making them well acquainted with Peter Parker. The portrayal of Felicia Hardy in this version is particularly close to the original concept, both in terms of her appearance and backstory. If we’re discussing adherence to the character’s initial depiction, then it can be said that this Black Cat is the most accurate representation.

She ignored her father’s true identity as the original Black Cat until one fateful day, she was injected with a composite drug that altered her appearance and physical qualities. After Felicia was given the Super Soldier Serum, she dressed as the Black Cat and began a life of crime, often seen as Spider-Man’s nemesis and occasional ally. She is in love with Peter Parker and knows his true identity as Spider-Man. In the game, this version of Black Cat is the first one recruited as one of Spider-Man’s allies, and it is one of the occasions where this character is available as a companion.

5 Spider-Man Web Of Shadows

A Great Modern Version, With An Even Better Character Background

Best Versions Of Black Cat In Spider-Man Games, Ranked
  • Universe: Earth-TRN009
  • Status: Alive

In my opinion, “Spider-Man: Web of Shadows” stands out among all Spider-Man games as one of the most captivating releases, and it’s only fitting that the legendary character, Black Cat, kept up with the game’s exceptional standards. For this iteration, the design of the anti-heroic cat burglar’s outfit was given a contemporary twist, swapping the traditional spandex one-piece for a sleek two-piece leather armor complete with a jacket. The updated character background and modernized suit are undeniably attractive elements that elevate this version to one of the best.

In summary, Felicia’s demeanor towards Spider-Man has shifted noticeably, given their past romantic history as Black Cat. The narrative here presents an attempt by both characters to maintain normal lives while concealing their identities, but things don’t go smoothly. When players meet Felicia during the pursuit of Kingpin, she discloses her enduring feelings for Peter and agrees to collaborate with him in defeating the villain.

4 Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 – 2

The Newest Version Has A Cool Design But Lacks Charm

Best Versions Of Black Cat In Spider-Man Games, Ranked
  • Universe: Earth-1048
  • Status: Alive

In the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, Felicia Hardy, also known as the Black Cat, deviates from her traditional portrayal. Instead of relying on agility and wit alone, she is skilled in both acrobatics and espionage. Moreover, she has a penchant for gadgets, setting her apart from other iterations of the character. In this storyline, Felicia discovered Walter Hardy’s true identity earlier than expected and defied her father’s wishes to embark on a life of burglary. She crafted her own suit and equipment for these exploits. At 20 years old, she is older and more mature than Peter Parker, who is only 18 in this version. Interestingly, Felicia remains unaware of Spider-Man’s true identity (as far as we know) and interacts with him only during a series of side missions called the Black Cat Stakeouts. She later becomes a main character in the City That Never Sleeps DLC expansion.

As a devoted fan, I must say that in this comic universe, I found myself rooting for Black Cat as she strived for redemption while maintaining a complex relationship with Spider-Man. However, the story took an unexpected turn when it was revealed that she had been secretly keeping the ill-gotten gains from their joint crimes. Sadly, this led to a breakup between them. Despite not being as popular as anticipated, due mainly to certain aspects of her character development, I personally believe this portrayal of Felicia Hardy remains one of the finest versions of the character, excelling in both aesthetic and faithfulness to the original. However, one persistent issue lies in the alterations to her backstory, where Black Cat strays from her typical origins tied to the Super Soldier Serum and her father’s haunting past catching up with her.

3 Spider-Man Edge of Time

Definitely Not Children Safe Version

  • Universe: Earth-TRN199
  • Status: Alive (trapped)

A more refined, adult version of Felicia Hardy’s clone, produced by Alchemax Corporation from a mix of DNA from the original Black Cat, Tigra, The Vanisher, and genuine feline genetic matter (definitely outlandish). This Black Cat clone is the most potent and potentially harmful one that Spider-Man has encountered. Despite being a clone, she retained memories of the original Felicia Hardy during the cloning procedure, so she’s aware of Peter Parker and harbors feelings for him.

In an unexpected turn of events, a Spider-Man from another timeline crosses paths with her. Since he’s deceased in her own reality, her curiosity leads her to trail him. However, after discovering the bond between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, she becomes wrathful and fixated, determined to interfere with his plan to revert back to his reality. In a peculiar twist, Alchemax manipulated her emotions by instilling Agoraphobia within her genetically, making her fear venturing outdoors. This confines her to the building as a top security guard, serving more as a prized pet. Despite these limitations, she possesses immense power, showcasing teleportation skills and superhuman abilities that rival Spider-Man’s. Known for her edgy portrayal in this alternate universe, Black Cat proves to be a formidable adversary, and her ability to teleport only adds to the frustration of confronting her.

2 The Amazing Spider-Man

Cool Version Would Have Been Great To See Her In The Movies

Best Versions Of Black Cat In Spider-Man Games, Ranked
  • Universe: Earth-TRN376
  • Status: Alive

In this world, Felicia Hardy, an elite high school cheerleader and academic standout, enjoyed a relatively non-existent relationship with Peter Parker prior to her graduation. Her life was filled with luxury and comfort, making it ideal. After graduating, she vanished for unknown reasons, only to resurface later after secretive training. This training honed her skills in stealth, acrobatics, and infiltration to near-perfection. Reemerging years later, she took on the identity of the Black Cat, a renowned criminal mastermind and mercenary leader who clashed with Spider-Man following the Oscorp Cross-Species plague incident. Unlike other versions of the character, this Black Cat is particularly sly and has attempted to deceive Spider-Man multiple times.

In this adaptation, she develops an intense fascination for Spider-Man, often outwitting him and even eluding legal consequences by being labeled as mentally unwell and confined to a mental health facility. She subsequently undergoes experiments that enhance her physical abilities, similar to the original Black Cat, but ultimately faces defeat when confronting Spider-Man once more.

1 Spider-Man 2 The Movie

The Best Of Them All: Had Charm, Great Design, And Background

Best Versions Of Black Cat In Spider-Man Games, Ranked
  • Universe: Earth-1610
  • Status: Alive

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that the Black Cat from the Spider-Man 2 video game has garnered a massive following, outshining all its alternate iterations. Lending her voice to this iconic character is the legendary Holly Fields, who delivers some of the most memorable and fiery dialogue with our very own Spider-Man – none other than Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the web-slinger. The captivating story arc in which she features unfolds between the first and second movies, serving as a “bridge” connecting the two narratives.

In this portrayal, the character appears to dislike other criminals, instead choosing to work alongside Spider-Man to defeat foes like Shocker and lesser villains. It could be described as her exhibiting a “less hostile” or “amicable” side towards Spider-Man, whom she seems keen on impressing. In the same comic universe, Black Cat is known for pursuing a romantic relationship with Spider-Man, often seen preparing a romantic meal atop rooftops. This behavior is unique to only two other versions of the character: the ones from Earth-71002 and Earth-616, both considered accurate within the canon. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see this version of the Black Cat debut in a Spider-Man film, which would have given Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man a much-needed completion.
