As a seasoned Borderlands veteran with countless hours spent blasting my way through Pandora, I can confidently say that this series has left an indelible mark on my gaming life. From the moment I picked up my first Vault Hunter, I was hooked, and the looter-shooter genre will forever be etched in my heart.
The variety of weapons in Borderlands is astounding, with over a billion firearms to choose from! But deciding which character fits your playstyle is crucial to mastering the game. I’ve learned that concentrating on using my character’s unique Action Skill, building my skill tree around a specific playstyle, experimenting with different weapons and elemental damage types, and always being aware of ammo management are all key to success.
Armed with a diverse arsenal is essential in Borderlands, as the game only offers six types of ammunition: pistol, assault, SMG, shotgun, sniper, and heavy. To prevent running out of ammo at the most inconvenient times, I always carry a variety of weapons, choosing my two favorites to use and keeping the rest in reserve.
Coopetition mode is a fantastic addition to the game if you’re looking for a little friendly competition during co-op sessions. By disabling level scaling and loot instancing from the main menu, you can create an extra layer of challenge. However, it’s essential to be aware that if you can’t keep up with your friends’ progress, you may struggle in firefights, as everyone will be competing for the best weapons.
When building a character, choosing skills that complement your playstyle is crucial. There are numerous options available, but I find it helpful to focus on the essential skills for Krieg builds. Find your preferred playstyle first and foremost, whether you’re a runner-and-gunner or a sniper from afar.
One of my biggest mistakes was becoming overly dependent on one gun or piece of gear. After finding a weapon that seemed perfect, I held onto it for dear life. However, as the game progressed, I realized that this love affair was short-lived. The weapon didn’t level up with me, and eventually, I had to part ways with my cherished companion.
To avoid this issue, I recommend having a more varied loadout. Having two of the same gun isn’t worth it because you’ll run out of ammunition quickly. Currently, I have a rocket launcher, an SMG, a pistol, a shotgun, an assault rifle, and a sniper rifle in my rotation. This way, I can switch up my attacks without worrying about running out of ammo.
Elemental weapons are also a game-changer! Understanding the elemental weaknesses of enemies is the key to survival. While earlier games in the series didn’t have many enemies with elemental weaknesses, certain enemies in later games can only be severely harmed by selecting the appropriate element. Lightning causes constant shock damage and short circuits robots, while fire causes constant burn damage and is effective against human adversaries. The explosive element functions more like an area of effect attribute, making it impossible for enemies to hide. One advantage of elemental damage is that it makes it impossible for an enemy to hide because damage numbers constantly appear, exposing their position.
In conclusion, Borderlands has been a constant source of enjoyment and entertainment throughout my gaming life. I eagerly await each new installment in the series, as I know it will bring new challenges, exciting weapons, and countless hours of fun. And let’s not forget the infamous Claptrap – he never fails to crack me up!
The Borderlands series, boasting countless firearms at your disposal, is often given credit for kick-starting or significantly shaping the looter shooter genre. However, deciding the optimal sequence to play these games can be quite a task, given their abundance. Excluding DLCs and expansions, which should always be played alongside their respective base games, there are a total of seven Borderlands games.
Choosing a character that suits your preferred gaming approach – be it up-close battles, distant sharpshooting, or having pets join the fight – is essential in Borderlands. To make the most out of your character, focus on utilizing their distinct Action Skill, develop your skill tree based on a specific gameplay style, try various weapons and damage types, and never forget about ammo conservation.
Arm yourself with a range of weapons to prevent ammo shortages.
In Borderlands, there are only six types of ammunition for the numerous firearms available: pistol, assault rifle, submachine gun, shotgun, sniper rifle, and heavy weapon. It’s wise to carry a diverse arsenal into battle to avoid running out of ammo at critical moments. For instance, it may be more advantageous to pick one of your two preferred pistols and leave the other in your pack instead of risking both weapons depleting their ammo simultaneously.
Use coopetition mode to add some spice to co-op.
From the game’s main menu, you can turn off level scaling and loot sharing by choosing “Co-opetition Mode.” This is ideal for players who wish to introduce a competitive aspect to their Borderlands camaraderie or prefer the classic approach. Keep in mind that if a Vault Hunter struggles to keep pace with their friends’ advancement, they may find it tough during firefights. Also, you’ll be vying against each other for the finest weapons in Borderlands 3. If you’re up for an extra challenge during your multiplayer games, feel free to enable it whenever you like.
Selecting Appropriate Skills
In Borderlands, it’s vital to pick skills that match your gaming approach when creating a character. With numerous options available, the selection process might feel overwhelming. However, you can dominate the game by focusing on the essential skills for Krieg builds. Identifying your preferred playstyle should be your top priority – are you more of a run-and-gun or a long-range sniper type? This can guide you in deciding which skill branches to focus on.
Avoid becoming overly dependent on any one gun or piece of gear.
I understand its functioning. After several hours, no additional grenades, firearms, or protective gear appear. They complete the job, yet not with the required dramatic panache. In the initial gameplay, these prolonged gaps occur too often, but at some point, a gun appears that you can’t let go of.
I encountered it using an acclaimed firearm, which operated like a rapid-fire shotgun in essence. Yet, our relationship didn’t last long. It failed to advance when I progressed. Ultimately, you’ll find that it won’t suffice against stronger opponents as time goes on.
Make your load out more varied.
Initially in the game, there isn’t much ammo available. Having two identical guns isn’t beneficial since you’ll exhaust your ammo supply quite rapidly. At present, I have a rocket launcher and an SMG (submachine gun) as secondary options, and a pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper rifle in my immediate arsenal. This setup allows me to switch up my attacks whenever needed without fear of running out of ammo.
Elemental weapons are awesome!
In the harsh wasteland, the key to staying alive is understanding the vulnerabilities of your foes based on their elements. Unlike in earlier Borderlands games where enemies usually lacked elemental weaknesses, some enemies in this version can be severely damaged or even defeated by selecting the correct elemental type. For instance, lightning can repeatedly shock enemies and disable robots, while fire can burn them continuously and cause damage to human opponents. The explosive element works more like a wide-area effect, transforming a narrow passageway into an enemy’s graveyard and making aiming less crucial. A significant advantage of dealing elemental damage is that it makes it difficult for enemies to hide because their health numbers are constantly visible, revealing their location.
