Megabonk is really popular with players who enjoy challenging roguelite games. If you’re trying to create a specific playstyle, you’ll be glad to know that there are 29 different weapons available. Some weapons work best up close, while others are more effective at a distance.
As a movie critic – or in this case, a game critic – I’ve seen plenty of action, but even *I* was impressed by the sheer scale of enemies you can face. Thankfully, the game offers weapons specifically built for tackling these swarms, and figuring out which ones work best *together* is absolutely crucial if you want to climb the ranks. This guide is going to break down some of the most overpowered weapon combinations, showing you how to cut through hundreds of enemies and, more importantly, survive to brag about it.
Best Melee Damage Weapon Combos in Megabonk
Characters such as Megachad, Sir Oofie, Bandit, Ninja, or Sir Chadwell always begin with close-combat weapons and possess abilities that improve as they create these kinds of weapons. Therefore, if you enjoy playing close-combat characters, choosing one of these builds is the best way to deal the most damage.
- Best Boss Damage Build: Sword + Hero’s Sword + Corrupted Sword/ Aegis- This build combines three strong weapons for melee attacks, plus the Aegis effect to mitigate and add knockback. Players will want to mix stat boosts like Attack Speed, Lifesteal, and Damage (from Tomes, Items, and Shrines) with Items that increase health, like Chunkplate and Oats, to make it work.
- Balanced Build: Hero’s Sword + Axe + Wireless Dagger/ Katana – This build is ideal for swift takedowns in a moderate radius. Enemies approaching will receive considerable damage, and players will be able to move leisurely as they kill. Works best with Triggering Effects like Spicy Meatballs, and Slurpy Gloves. Add Attack Speed Tomes and Items for a brutal effect.
- Critical Build: Katana + Dexecutioner + Wireless Dagger or Hero’s Sword – This build works better with characters like Ninja, Tony McZoom, or Bandit. Maximize Critical Chance and Critical Hit Damage to cause tons of hurt.
Best Anti-Swarm Weapon Combos in Megabonk

I’ve found that mixing melee, Area of Effect, and ranged weapons is a great way to handle most threats and protect myself from being overwhelmed by hordes. It seems like the longer I spend leveling up and getting better bonuses and items, the more challenging it becomes to quickly gain an advantage – so it’s important to build effectively from the start. I’ve been trying these builds, and they’ve really helped me deal with large groups of enemies. Check them out!
- Best Swarm Clear Build: Revolver + Bow + Aura or Lightning Staff – Offers tons of range and area clear, combined with decent damage, Projectile+, and Attack speed, it can become a swarm destroyer and escalates really well in higher tiers.
- Balanced Build: Firestaff + Sword + Bow or Revolver – Easy to pair with random bonuses (Shrines, Items, etc.) and offers decent cover against swarms. Takes longer to snowball, and causes less damage to bosses, so prioritize adding Damage To Elites and Bosses whenever there’s a chance.
- Control Build: Bow + Dragon’s Breath + Black Hole, Aegis, or Tornado – Adds a little bit of AoE damage. Ideal for combining with On-Hit Effect items like Ice Cube, Spicy Meatballs, or Moldy Cheese.
Best Range Weapon Combos in Megabonk

Characters such as Robinette, CL4NK, and Bush really shine when using ranged weapons. However, all characters in Megabonk can use any weapon, so players aren’t limited by their choice of character. You can pick up ranged weapons no matter who you’re playing as.
- Best Speed Clear Build: Revolver + Bow + Fire Staff or Hero Sword – Offers a lot of coverage, great snowballing in later levels, and decent Knockback to deal with swarms.
- Best Balanced Build: Lightning Staff + Shotgun + Slutty Rocket or Revolver – This build covers most angles and will scale nicely with Attack Speed and Projectile Number.
- Best Effect Combo Build: Poison Flask + Frostwalker + Black Hole or Aura – These weapons combined are currently the most broken build for damage scaling. Combined with Moldy Cheese, Moldy Gloves, and Damage Scaling, it slays entire swarms and bosses in a matter of seconds.
