Which Starting Weapon Should You Choose in WWM?
When choosing a weapon from the four available in Qi Sheng, the best one is simply the one you like the most! However, it’s worth thinking about a few key things before you decide.
- The Nameless Sword and Nameless Spear are good DPS weapons, lowering the practical value of choosing the Infernal Twinblades.
- The Vernal Umbrella and Thundercry Blade can only be obtained in the second major region.
- The Infernal Twinblades and Panacea Fan can be obtained early in the first region.
- Your first fight against Campaign and Mysterious Bosses affects you with Healing Reduction, which affects the Panacea Fan.
You can unlock all weapons simply by playing the game. In Where Winds Meet, the gacha system is only used to obtain cosmetic items and small, helpful resources – it doesn’t affect your ability to get powerful weapons.
Weapon names such as Infernal Twinblades, Nameless Sword, and Thundercry Blade don’t refer to the weapons themselves, but to specific fighting styles. To use a weapon associated with one of these names, you must first learn the corresponding martial art. For example, simply owning twinblades isn’t enough – you need to learn the Infernal Twinblades style to actually wield them effectively.

These short swords are considered Melee Damage Dealers and are built for fast, continuous attacks. While each hit doesn’t deal a lot of damage on its own, their speed makes up for it. They compete with weapons like the Nameless Sword and Spear for the best damage-dealing role, which might make them seem unnecessary. But if you enjoy a quick and aggressive fighting style, you’ll really enjoy these.
Flamelash is the special ability of the Twinblades. It puts you in a powerful, frenzied state that increases your attack power and critical hit chance, but at the cost of your health and Karmic Flame energy. The core strategy is straightforward: attack enemies to build up Karmic Flame, activate Flamelash to maximize damage, stay alive, and keep repeating the process.

The Thundercry Blade focuses on quick, wide-reaching light attacks and powerful, slow heavy attacks. It’s designed for players who like to act as tanks – it can stun enemies, and its special skill, Predator Shield, creates a temporary barrier to protect you from damage.
The Thundercry Blade is different from fast-paced weapons like the Infernal Twinblades – it focuses on powerful, charged attacks. You’ll do the most damage by fully charging your light or heavy attacks, and the weapon’s abilities will help with this, either by increasing damage or speeding up the charge time. If you enjoy a strong, close-combat fighting style where you can power through enemy attacks, the Thundercry Blade is a great choice.
Thundercry Blade lets you charge both its quick and powerful attacks. Quick attacks hit a broad area, while powerful attacks focus their damage on a single spot. Holding down the attack button uses Fighting Spirit – which you earn by playing or blocking – to add an extra boost to those attacks.

In the game Where Winds Meet, the Panacea Fan is the weapon healers begin with. It’s also a stylish accessory! Unlike other fans, this one focuses on long-distance attacks to hurt enemies, but its special abilities and powerful strikes are all about keeping yourself and your teammates alive. It’s specifically designed for healing, so don’t mistake it for the Inkwell Fan, which is built for dealing damage.
The Panacea Fan is designed more for support than for dealing a lot of damage, especially compared to other weapons. It works fine against weaker enemies, but you’ll want to switch to a different weapon for challenging boss battles if you want to inflict serious damage.

Holding down the button for your basic attack lets you rapidly shoot projectiles from your umbrella. This action also fills up a meter called Blossom, which powers the special abilities of the Vernal Umbrella.
The Vernal Umbrella fighting style specializes in keeping enemies at a distance, delivering a flurry of attacks from close to medium range. Similar to the Thundercry Blade, it relies heavily on both quick and powerful charged attacks. Its ‘Spring Sorrow’ ability is particularly effective at controlling groups of enemies, making it a good match when used alongside the Nameless Spear and Thundercry Blade.
The Vernal Umbrella is ideal for players who prefer to fight from a distance. While it focuses on ranged attacks, it’s most effective when used alongside another weapon that deals direct damage.
