Bethesda Dev Accidentally Hints at The Elder Scrolls 6 Setting

Highlights

  • A Bethesda concept artist has accidentally offered some hints suggesting that The Elder Scrolls 6 will take place in Hammerfell.
  • Hammerfell has long been rumored as the setting of the next TES game, which was officially announced back in June 2018.

As an avid fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I’ve followed every rumor and leak regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 (TES 6) with bated breath since Bethesda first announced it back in 2018. The recent hints from a Bethesda developer, Ray Lederer, have only added fuel to the fire of my excitement.

A developer from Bethesda unintentionally dropped some clues, implying that “The Elder Scrolls 6” could be set in Hammerfell. This revelation will add fuel to the fans’ long-held theories about the game’s location.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t believe it’s been six years since Bethesda dropped the teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6 during their E3 2018 presentation. Before that moment, whispers about Hammerfell as the game’s setting had been swirling around in the gaming community. But when I saw that savanna, those towering mountains, and that long coastline in the teaser, I knew for sure that the rumors were true. These landscapes are a perfect fit for the Redguard homeland described in the series’ lore.

I’ve recently discovered some intriguing clues that have fueled my theories even more. Ray Lederer, a senior concept artist at Bethesda Game Studios with over a decade of experience under his belt, has been adding an abundance of new content to his public Pinterest boards lately. His accounts, specifically @raylgun, are titled “Men,” “Costumes,” “Weapons,” and “Landscapes.” What’s particularly noteworthy is that these boards showcase a common theme: North African, Moorish, and Middle Eastern cultures. These inspirations have been well-documented as the foundations for Hammerfell and the Redguard characters in The Elder Scrolls series.

Fans have speculated that artist Lederer’s recent social media updates, which some interpret as additions to his “TES 6” inspiration boards, hint at the highly anticipated RPG being set in Hammerfell. After these images gained attention online in mid-July 2024, Lederer made his Pinterest profile private, fueling suspicions that his pins may have revealed information about the game in development.

Fishing Might Be Making a Return in TES 6

An earlier access of the artist’s now hidden Pinterest page, examined by Game Rant, showcases a significant collection of saltwater fish images. This discovery could suggest that fishing mechanics from “Skyrim” are set to resurface in its sequel or that maritime life will be incorporated into the upcoming game in another way. Fish have been present in the series since “TES 2: Daggerfall,” serving as both background creatures and aggressive species, like the ominously named Slaughterfish.

Bethesda is likely to keep the setting of their upcoming franchise entry a secret for some time, as the game hasn’t even reached its final development stage yet. It started being worked on in earnest after Starfield was released in September 2023. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer previously indicated that The Elder Scrolls 6 may not be available before the late 2020s, meaning a potential release as early as 2028 is unlikely.
