Bethesda's Indiana Jones Can't Be Only Game to Use Harrison Ford's Likeness

As a lifelong fan of both Indiana Jones and Han Solo, I can’t help but feel a tinge of excitement as I see Bethesda’s upcoming game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, taking shape. The prospect of exploring the globe as Indy, all while sporting Harrison Ford’s youthful visage, is nothing short of thrilling. However, dear Disney and Lucasfilm, if you truly want to make this gamer’s heart sing, you need to give us a Han Solo game that matches the grandeur of Indiana Jones!

Indiana Jones: The Great Voyage is the next major release from Bethesda Softworks and MachineGames, the Swedish studio responsible for games like Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. In this game, set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you’ll follow Indiana Jones on his globe-trotting adventures as he seeks to unravel the mystery surrounding an artifact that was purloined from the Vatican. The upcoming Bethesda game, Indiana Jones: The Great Circle, boasts a variety of actual locations as playable stages, such as Thailand, Egypt, the Himalayas, and Shanghai. Unlike past video game adaptations of Lucasfilm’s famous film series, this upcoming Bethesda title predominantly uses a first-person gameplay viewpoint instead of a third-person one, following the style of MachineGames’ previous projects.

Another significant point about the game “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” is that it showcases a likeness of Harrison Ford. In this game, Indiana Jones is voiced by Troy Baker, a renowned voice actor who has led roles in games such as Far Cry 4, Tales of Vesperia, and The Last of Us. Interestingly, the character model and physical appearance of Indy are based on a younger Harrison Ford. Although it’s fantastic that Bethesda and MachineGames managed to acquire the likeness of the award-winning actor, it would be exciting if “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” wasn’t the only game featuring him. In fact, Lucasfilm and Disney should consider developing a “Star Wars” game that solely focuses on Han Solo, the character Ford plays in the popular franchise.

With Indiana Jones Fast Approaching, It’s About Time Lucasfilm Gives Fans a Han Solo Game as Well

Han Solo is One of Harrison Ford’s Defining Roles

Prior to becoming a cultural icon through his role as Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, Harrison Ford initially gained popularity with his depiction of Han Solo, the smuggler-turned-rebel-hero, in the 1977 film “Star Wars”. Thanks to Ford’s exceptional acting, Han Solo swiftly emerged as one of the most renowned characters within the “Star Wars” galaxy, following closely behind Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia. Following the success of the initial “Star Wars” movie, Harrison Ford reprised his role as Han Solo in four subsequent films such as “The Empire Strikes Back”, “Return of the Jedi”, and “The Force Awakens”.

Han Solo’s Been Featured in Many Titles, But a Game Centered Around Him Has Yet to Be Made

Over the years, Han Solo has made numerous appearances in video games, one of his earliest being in the 1992 game “Super Star Wars,” where he played a secondary role that allowed temporary control. More recently, he’s been included in titles such as “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,” “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2,” “Kinect Star Wars,” “Disney Infinity 3.0,” and “Star Wars: Battlefront 2” from 2017.

Despite the long history of Star Wars video games spanning over 40 years, no notable title has featured Han Solo as the main character, which seems surprising given his immense popularity. One might expect that a top-tier AAA game starring this iconic character would have been developed by now, but it appears not to be the case. Therefore, should a new, high-quality video game centered around Han Solo ever materialize, it would undoubtedly be a wish fulfilled, particularly if it followed a similar narrative structure as Indiana Jones’ upcoming adventure.

A Han Solo FPS Similar to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Could Be a Perfect Fit

Similar to how Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could benefit from adopting a first-person view, a potential Han Solo game might find success by doing the same. This approach would help it differentiate itself from recent third-person Star Wars titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Jedi: Survivor. With few current first-person shooter options in the Star Wars universe, a single-player Han Solo game inspired by classics such as SW: Dark Forces or SW: Republic Commando could make a unique impact among its contemporaries. If MachineGames can execute Indiana Jones and the Great Circle effectively, they might be the ideal team to create a first-person Star Wars FPS featuring the iconic character, Han Solo.
