Video games based on tabletop games are becoming increasingly popular, especially after the huge success of *Baldur’s Gate 3* in 2023. The developers of *Starfinder: Afterlight*, a role-playing game set in the *Starfinder* universe, were inspired by *Baldur’s Gate 3* during its creation. Like *Baldur’s Gate 3*, *Starfinder: Afterlight* will offer strategic turn-based battles, a detailed and immersive world, and a strong emphasis on the personal stories of the characters you meet. To capture some of the magic of the *Dungeons & Dragons* adaptation, the developers have collaborated with Neil Newbon, the actor who famously portrayed the beloved character Astarion in *Baldur’s Gate 3*.
During a recent event, the founders of Epictellers Entertainment, Albert Jane and Ricard Pillosu, announced that Newbon is directing the voice acting for *Starfinder: Afterlight*. He’s working with a talented cast including Fred Tatasciore, Carolina Ravassa, and Melissa Medina, with more actors to be announced later. When asked if Newbon would also be *in* the game as a voice actor, Jane and Pillosu didn’t confirm or deny it, but said they’d be thrilled if he contributed his voice in any way.
Newbon’s Support Has Been Valuable To The Game’s Development
So, I recently learned about Epictellers Entertainment – they’re a pretty new studio, but the team has experience working with big names like Ubisoft and Gameloft. Apparently, when it came to finding someone to bring the game to life with voice acting, they were a little lost because they hadn’t handled that part of development before. They teamed up with ICO Partners, who introduced them to Newbon, and he was instantly on board! He even posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 7th saying how excited he was, and made it clear that they’re committed to *not* using AI for anything in the game, including the voice work – which is awesome!
The team found their first meeting with Neil Newbon incredibly exciting, as they were already big fans of his work before collaborating with him on *Starfinder: Afterlight*. Pillosu praised him, saying, “He’s fantastic – you can’t help but love him!” The Epictellers team described the award-winning actor, director, and motion capture artist as a great teacher who helped them refine how they cast the recruitable characters and NPCs in *Starfinder: Afterlight*.
In Starfinder: Afterlight, Characters Are The Focus

Jane Pillosu and her team started working on *Starfinder: Afterlight* by designing the characters players can recruit, including Kole, an aspiring action hero; Lu-323, an android expert in information; and Sterling, a man of mystery – with more characters still to be announced. Finding the right voice actor for each role was incredibly important, and Neil Newbon’s expertise proved essential. Pillosu recounted how Newbon specifically helped them cast Melissa Medina as Lu.
Finding the actors for Sterling and Lu took an entire weekend. We auditioned sixty people for each role. The writers and I listened to countless takes, and eventually narrowed it down to ten finalists. We spoke with Neil, who encouraged us to follow our instincts. That’s how we chose Melissa – she truly embodied the character of Lu.
Albert Jane shared that while he’s worked in the gaming industry for eight years, Starfinder: Afterlight was his first time being part of the casting process. He recalled a funny story about Inel Tomlinson’s audition for the character Tycho, a cynical operative. Tomlinson submitted an audition file that was almost ten times larger than everyone else’s – a whopping 20 megabytes! Jane worried something might be wrong, but Newbon assured him Tomlinson simply loved the character. Tomlinson ultimately got the part and, with Newbon’s help, created a truly distinctive and memorable voice for Tycho.
The upcoming game, *Starfinder: Afterlight*, is starting a Kickstarter campaign to get input from players, and is currently aiming for an Early Access release in 2026. More characters and the actors playing them will be announced soon. While fans are hoping to hear the voice actor known for the vampire rogue in *Baldur’s Gate 3* in this game, it’s not confirmed yet if they will be involved.
