As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement at the prospect of another major Xbox event coming our way in January 2025! The anticipation is palpable, and the potential lineup of games – from Avowed to Outer Worlds 2 – has me itching to hit the ‘play’ button.
According to various reports, a significant Xbox event is expected to take place in January 2025. As we approach the end of 2024, there’s a sense of excitement in the air as new games are about to hit the market. It seems that Microsoft might be gearing up to reveal all the exciting content they have planned for 2025.
It’s not unreasonable to think that Microsoft’s gaming division might host an event in January, given that they did so in both 2023 and 2024. The most recent of these events showcased a number of exciting games for the year, including Square Enix’s “Visions of Mana” and the recently released “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” Last year’s event placed a strong emphasis on “Avowed,” which was eventually delayed from 2024 and is now scheduled for release on February 18, 2025. With the new year just around the corner, many are speculating that Xbox could be gearing up to reveal what fans can expect in the coming months.
In a recent post on Bluesky, Tom Warren from The Verge suggests that Microsoft might be planning an Xbox showcase around January 2025. He believes that with the success of recent Xbox Game Pass releases like Indiana Jones, and exciting titles lined up for 2025 such as Avowed, South of Midnight, Doom, Towerborne, Fable, Outer Worlds 2, and more, it feels like Microsoft has found a good rhythm. Warren also hinted at the possibility of an Xbox event in January, echoing similar anticipation from Jez Corden, Executive Editor of Windows Central, who previously suggested that The Game Awards 2024 may not have many first-party announcements from the company and instead, Xbox might host its own event in Q1 2025.
An Xbox Developer Direct May Be Coming in January 2025
2025 looks like it’s going to be an incredible year for Xbox, with a plethora of first-party titles on their way to both PC and the Xbox Series X/S. Out of these games, only Avowed has a confirmed release date, while the rest are just scheduled to arrive sometime this year. Recently, industry insider Jeff Grubb hinted that one of Xbox’s flagship titles will be pushed back to 2026, though he didn’t specify which game it might be. Many fans are speculating that Fable could be the game in question, given the lack of details about its gameplay so far.
In the future, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has indicated that exclusivity for Xbox games is no longer a primary focus. He suggested that certain exclusive games might become available on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. This implies that some games previously considered as Xbox exclusives could potentially launch simultaneously with PlayStation 5 in the future. Matt Booty, president of game content and studios at Microsoft, mentioned that whether or not first-party titles will be released on other platforms will depend on an individual basis for each game.
