Biggest Games Releasing in January 2025

It can be challenging to build upon past achievements, but the upcoming top games in 2025 provide optimism. Ranging from highly anticipated AAA giants to long-awaited remakes and enhancements, there’s plenty to look forward to. We begin our journey with the most significant releases of January 2025.

2024 kept progressing, making us eagerly anticipate another awe-inspiring year at The Game Awards 2024. As we move past last year, it’s time to focus on the bright future ahead. GTA 6 is rumored to be hiding somewhere, primed to clean up every award and dollar from our wallets; Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is in stealth mode, aiming to snatch the best remake title; and there’s an FPS on the horizon that could bring DOOM upon us all.

As I stand on the precipice of 2025, my heart pounds with apprehension over the potential costs that lie ahead. To paint a vivid picture, let’s embark on a journey starting from January 2025, focusing on its marquee events to help set the stage for the rest of the year.

Best Games Coming in 2025

Although release dates might shift, even at the very last moment, I am quite certain about naming these as the most significant games of January. For your convenience, I’ve included their release dates that you can jot down in your brand-new 2025 planner.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD — January 16

January 2025 is an ideal month for remastering and porting games. I still enjoy the challenging gameplay of Donkey Kong despite its underappreciated difficulty. Nintendo will release Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on Nintendo Switch, which may be one of the last opportunities to play this game before a new version comes out. With the rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 increasing and my belief that we need an upgrade, it might be our last chance to explore, swing, destroy, and wreck havoc in Country Returns before making way for a new installment.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins — January 17

I’m completely unfamiliar with Dynasty Warriors: Origins or the series as a whole. However, whenever I come across it, I can’t help but think it appears enjoyable. The trailers and gameplay previews showcase an overwhelming number of soldiers on screen and grand-scale battles that are truly spectacular. As stated by Dynasty Warriors producer and director Tomohiko Sho to The Gamer, the team aimed for a staggering 10,000 soldiers on screen simultaneously. While it may not reach that exact figure, the game still presents an impressive spectacle nonetheless.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — January 23

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the PC release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Even though it’s been almost a year since its initial launch, this gem is not to be missed. Despite its modest sales performance, I firmly believe that Rebirth deserves more recognition—both in terms of commercial success and awards.

For PC players like myself, the port promises an enhanced experience with features such as DLSS, improved textures and modeling, advanced lighting effects, and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. Never before has Queen’s Blood looked so stunningly vibrant on screen. So, mark your calendars fellow gamers, the PC version of this JRPG masterpiece is one not to be missed!

Sniper Elite: Resistance — January 30

In January 2025, the highly anticipated game, Sniper Elite: Resistance, will be released. Once again, Rebellion has crafted an intense, third-person shooter with a blend of sniping and gore. The graphic killcam sequences from previous games have been enough to make me flinch just thinking about them. They’ve hinted at more mission diversity and creativity as you work to disarm Germany’s top secret Wunderwaffe weapon. Excitingly, Sniper Elite: Resistance will be available on Game Pass on its release day.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — January 30

The last game on our top games of January 2025 list is a polished port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, wrapping up our biggest titles. Spiderman, Miles, and even Venom are swinging into computer worlds with this refined version. Similar to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 offers enhancements and updates compared to the original – advanced ray-tracing options being the highlight.
