Highlights
- Shichibukai in One Piece face defeat thanks to clever characters.
- Sacrifices made by characters in One Piece are meaningful and impactful.
- Acts of compassion in One Piece change the storyline for the better.
In this captivating world of One Piece, I’ve come to appreciate the profound sacrifices made by its characters, each act echoing with a resonance that transcends the pages of the manga or screens of our televisions. Among these selfless acts, I find myself particularly moved by the tales of Bartholomew Kuma, Bon Clay, and Corazon.
In appearance, One Piece might appear as a cheerful anime, but it conceals moments that turn somber swiftly. Over the course of the narrative, viewers have been exposed to several instances where One Piece characters meet their end or endure pain inflicted by others.
In the world of “One Piece,” where piracy is rampant and often associated with selfishness, any act of selflessness or compassion from a character stands out significantly. These heartfelt gestures have a profound impact on the storyline, ultimately improving the narrative of “One Piece.”
6 Shanks
Sacrificed His Left Arm For Luffy
Captain Shanks, belonging to the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Yonko, is a formidable figure possessing the ability to wield all three forms of Haki. A sudden surge of his Conqueror’s Haki was sufficient to intimidate Admiral Ryokugyu, causing him to halt his assault on Momonosuke and the scabbards.
Prior to rising as a Yonko, Shanks stopped over at Foosha Village to gather provisions. It was here that he first encountered Luffy. When Higuma tossed Luffy into the ocean, Shanks miraculously appeared and rescued him from certain death. But, this heroic act came with a price – Shanks lost his left arm in the process.
5 Pedro
Helped The Straw Hats Escape Whole Cake Island
Previously, Pedro served as the captain of the Nox Pirates, but his tenure ended tragically when he was captured by Big Mom. He kept a low profile until the Straw Hat crew arrived on Zou. Eventually, he chose to join Luffy on their quest to Whole Cake Island with the aim of rescuing Sanji.
After finishing their task, the Straw Hat crew found themselves trapped within Big Mom’s domain. Having exhausted all other possibilities, Pedro made the sacrifice of self-destructing, thereby liberating the Thousand Sunny ship. This allowed the Straw Hat Pirates to escape unscathed.
4 Portgas D. Ace
Sacrificed Himself To Protect Luffy
Portgas D. Ace served as the Second-in-Command of the Whitebeard Pirates. He was satisfied with his position, but a tragic event stirred things up: a fellow division member named Blackbeard assassinated Thatch. This act sparked a fierce determination within Ace to seek out and bring justice upon Blackbeard. When their paths finally crossed, Ace stood poised and ready to wreak havoc on him.
Despite Blackbeard being too strong for Ace, it was ultimately Ace who found himself imprisoned at Impel Down, later transferred to Marineford. Though Ace had come to terms with his situation, Luffy was determined to rescue his elder sibling. After a prolonged battle, Luffy paused, giving Akainu the chance to deliver a fatal blow. However, Ace, ever watchful and swift, intervened by stepping in front of the attack to shield his brother. If not for this selfless act, Luffy’s journey would have been cut short.
3 Bartholomew Kuma
Gave Up His Sentience To Save Bonney
Despite a challenging upbringing, Bartholomew Kuma stood out as one of the kindest, if not the kindest, personalities in One Piece. Post consuming the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, Kuma’s peculiar ability involved absorbing pain from others and enduring it himself.
Yet, these minimal concessions seemed trivial against the grand acts of selflessness Kuma displayed for Jewelry Bonney. He relinquished his personal identity and life without regret, finding joy instead in the assurance that his daughter would be spared. Additionally, he endured numerous beatings over a prolonged period to shield the Thousand Sunny from any potential dangers.
2 Bon Clay
Gave Up His Freedom Twice For Luffy
Initially portrayed as a villain serving under Crocodile’s organization, Baroque Works, Bon Clay eventually experienced a shift in allegiance following Crocodile’s capture. First, Bon assisted the Straw Hat Pirates in their escape from Hina and the Marines. Later, during their visit to Impel Down, Bon deliberately chose to remain behind, paving the way for Luffy and the other fugitives to reach Marineford.
1. Not only were his actions demonstrative of selflessness, but they also went beyond what was expected. However, he undertook these tasks willingly because their friendship ran deep. It can be inferred that without Bon Clay’s assistance, the voyage of the Straw Hat Pirates might not have continued as smoothly.
1 Corazon
Stole The Ope Ope no Mi For Law
In contrast to his older brother Donquixote Doflamingo, Corazon was gentle and caring. Upon discovering Law’s predicament, Corazon traveled the globe in search of skilled physicians who might help. Regrettably, no one could save young Law from his affliction. However, these disappointments only fueled Corazon’s determination to persevere and strive for a solution.
In the end, Corazon found out that a transaction for the Ope Ope no Mi was taking place. Consequently, he chose to take it and give it to Law. His mission was accomplished, but he sustained multiple injuries. He passed on the Devil Fruit to Law, aware that his days were numbered. As a parting gesture, Corazon sacrificed himself to ensure Law could escape Doflamingo’s grasp safely and live a contented life.
