First-person game enthusiasts have a lot to anticipate in 2026 and beyond, with exciting titles coming to various genres. Horror fans will likely enjoy Crisol: Theater of Idols, which appears to be a terrifying and visually striking game reminiscent of Bloodborne. Judas promises a compelling and atmospheric supernatural thriller, and Halo: Campaign Evolved looks set to deliver a fantastic cooperative shooter experience, among many other promising games.
Fans of role-playing games have a lot to be excited about, and it’s not just the hints Bethesda has been giving us about Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6. While we’ll have to wait for those games to come out, the variety of RPGs currently in development looks promising and fun. These games will offer different experiences, with some focusing more heavily on RPG elements and potentially even experimenting with different viewpoints. What’s great is that each of these five games feels fresh and original.
Atomic Heart 2
A Series Reboot
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X
In 2023, Mundfish released Atomic Heart, a game six years in the making after its first announcement in 2017. Many players have noted its strong similarities to BioShock, particularly its character and weapon upgrade systems. The game is set in a unique dystopian future where advanced technology exists alongside retro Soviet aesthetics and a dominant Soviet Union. Mundfish plans to build on this foundation for the sequel, focusing even more on RPG gameplay. Currently, only a short teaser trailer has been released, hinting at what’s still to come.
The first look at Atomic Heart 2 suggests it will again be played from a first-person perspective, and the visuals are stunning. Players can expect a wide range of weapons, including rifles and pistols, each with unique ammunition and effects. The game promises diverse environments, from mountain towns and labs to lush valleys where you’ll chase robots. The trailer showcases several exciting features – like a transforming mech, grappling hook, parachuting, wall running, and psychic abilities – that may or may not appear in the final game. Regardless of how the game plays, the trailer’s world-building is incredibly impressive.
Clockwork Revolution
Playing With Time
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC and Xbox Series X
inXile Entertainment, the well-known RPG studio behind decades of games like Wasteland 3, is developing Clockwork Revolution. It’s been a while since their last major release, with the game first appearing in 2023 and a recent trailer in 2025 showing off its features. Clockwork Revolution is set in a visually striking steampunk version of 1800s London, reimagined with alternate historical elements – think automatons and talking dolls! Players will be able to create and customize their characters, developing not just their appearance, but also their personal history.
In Clockwork Revolution, players will be able to personalize their weapons and influence the story through their choices. The most exciting feature, however, is the ability to control time. Using a special gauntlet, players can rewind actions like recalling bullets or freeze objects to get past them. It looks like you can even avoid death, though these powers likely have limitations. While time manipulation isn’t new to RPGs, Clockwork Revolution seems incredibly promising, and if it lives up to the hype, it could become as popular as Baldur’s Gate 3.
Fatekeeper
A More Brutal Oblivion
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC
It’s difficult to say how good Fatekeeper will be, as it’s the first game from developer Paraglacial. However, it’s being published by THQ Nordic, a well-known company behind popular franchises like Saints Row and Darksiders, which is a good sign. If you enjoyed the combat in 2025’s The First Berserker: Khazan, you might like this game, as it features a similar slow but powerful fighting style. Visually, it’s reminiscent of Blasphemous, but in 3D. Players will be able to use a variety of weapons – including swords, axes, and clubs – and defend themselves by dodging and blocking.
The game features a magic system with upgradable skills, and a menu for managing your equipment. You’ll also encounter puzzles to solve. You can use spells like grabbing and throwing objects or enemies, or creating a powerful gust of wind. A unique aspect of the game is that the main character and his rat companion both talk throughout your adventure, making the story a key part of the experience, alongside the intense combat. If you prefer, you can turn off their dialogue and focus solely on the action.
Neo Berlin 2087
An Upcoming Cyberpunk Rival
- Developer: Elysium Game Studio
- Publisher: Elysium Game Studio
- Planned Release: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X
While CD Projekt Red hints at a potential new Cyberpunk 2077 game and rumors suggest a Deus Ex revival, Neo Berlin 2087 is a cyberpunk title to watch. Revealed in 2023 by Elysium Game Studio, the game’s trailers have been impressive. A key feature is the ability to play in either first-person or third-person, though it’s currently unclear if players can switch between these views freely.
This game takes place in a sprawling city where you can explore, interact with characters, and engage in plenty of shooting action. You’ll have access to a range of futuristic weapons, including rifles, pistols, and grenades. Stealth is also an option, with silenced weapons, a knife, and the ability to take enemies down from above. The game features cool powers, like bullet time, and likely many more. The big question is: can it compete with games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Deus Ex: Human Revolution? We’ll have to wait and see.
Valor Mortis
A French Shooter Soulslike
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Games inspired by the ‘Souls’ series now cover many different styles, including action RPGs, open-world adventures, and even turn-based strategy. Valor Mortis is a promising first-person example, currently aiming for a 2026 release. What sets it apart is that it’s being developed by One More Level, a studio known for the fast-paced Ghostrunner games. They clearly understand action in a first-person perspective, but they still need to demonstrate their ability to create a compelling RPG and a challenging ‘Soulslike’ experience. The game is set in a unique version of 18th or 19th century France, and players take on the role of a soldier who leaves behind comrades undergoing a mysterious transformation.
Enemies transform into powerful, intimidating versions of their original forms. While shooting is a key way to defeat them, players can also use swords and other melee weapons to block attacks. The game features unique abilities gained from unsettling sources—like learning to breathe fire. It’s hoped the game will be accessible for newcomers to the Soulslike genre, especially those who enjoy RPG elements. Ultimately, Valor Mortis has the potential to popularize first-person Soulslikes in the same way Elden Ring did for open-world games.
