In 2026, the PlayStation 5 will be six years old. It already boasts a strong library of games, including exclusives like Astro Bot and Demon’s Souls, and titles that were once exclusive but have since been released on PC, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Death Stranding 2, and Final Fantasy 16. Now, many gamers are curious to see what Sony has planned for the console in the coming years.
Honestly, the PS5 is a beast – the graphics are amazing, so I’m really hyped to see what games they release next. A bunch of upcoming titles are confirmed as PlayStation 5 exclusives, but here are eight of the ones I’m most excited about so far.
To be considered, a PlayStation 5 game needs to be exclusive to the console, though it could still be released on PC later. Since most games are now also available on PC, this is the standard approach.
Saros
Housemarque’s Next Game Is A Spiritual Successor To Returnal
In 2021, Finnish game studio Housemarque launched Returnal, a thrilling, fast-paced shooter with roguelike features. It was a big success with both critics and players, and is now considered a standout title for the PlayStation 5. Because of this success, many were eager to hear about their next project, Saros, which was announced in February 2025.
Though Saros is a new game, Housemarque aims to build upon the successful gameplay and features of Returnal. Players can expect the same fast-paced action and engaging roguelike elements, but with a fresh set of weapons, enemies, and bosses. PlayStation 5 owners will be able to play Saros in the first six months of 2026.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac’s Next Big Superhero Project
Insomniac Games is a key studio for PlayStation, known for excellent PS5 exclusives like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. After a significant amount of development, their next major game is expected to release this year, and it will feature a new Marvel hero.
Marvel’s Wolverine is an intense and violent action-adventure game where you play as Logan, battling tough foes like the Sentinels and Omega Red in locations around the world, including Canada, Japan, and Madripoor. Wolverine hasn’t had many great solo games in the past, but Marvel’s Wolverine is expected to change that.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Naughty Dog’s First New IP In Over 13 Years
Some fans have felt Naughty Dog relied too heavily on The Last of Us over the last six years, focusing only on sequels and updated versions of that game. However, the studio recently announced its next project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, at The Game Awards 2024, and it appears to be a completely new direction for them.
Details about Intergalactic are scarce, and it probably won’t be released until 2027 or 2028. However, the fact that Naughty Dog is creating a sci-fi adventure with a compelling hero battling massive robots using a laser sword is incredibly promising. While we still need to see it in action, Intergalactic has the potential to be a standout game for the PS5 and a major success for the current generation of consoles.
Physint
Hideo Kojima Is Going Back To His Roots With Sony’s Help
After leaving Konami, celebrated game designer Hideo Kojima partnered with PlayStation, resulting in the critically acclaimed Death Stranding games. While those games were innovative, many fans were hoping for something similar to his Metal Gear series. Luckily, it looks like they’ll be getting exactly that soon.
Hideo Kojima has often talked about his upcoming game, Physint, calling it an “action-espionage” title. This suggests it will be similar in style to his famous Metal Gear series. While details are scarce, a recent image Kojima shared looks very encouraging. The game is still several years from release, so it’s uncertain whether it will appear on the PS5 or the next PlayStation console. However, it’s expected to be one of the last exclusive games for the current PlayStation generation.
God of War Trilogy Remake
Giving The Classic Greek Saga A New Coat Of Paint
The God of War series has been doing incredibly well with its recent Norse-themed games, but many fans have been hoping for a PlayStation 5 version of the original Greek mythology games. Instead, they’re getting something even more exciting: a complete remake of the God of War Trilogy was just announced at the latest State of Play event.
We don’t yet know what changes or updates these remakes will bring, as no gameplay footage has been revealed and development is still in its early stages. However, there’s good news: T.C. Carson will return to voice Kratos! Ultimately, the original God of War games are classics in the action genre, so it’s exciting that a new generation will get to play them on today’s consoles.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Arc System Works + Marvel Is A Match Made In Heaven
Arc System Works is widely considered one of the top fighting game developers, known for creating stunning 2.5D games like Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Their next project is Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a 4-versus-4 fighting game developed in collaboration with Sony Interactive and Marvel, and featuring iconic comic book heroes.
Fighting game enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating Marvel Tokon, a new title from a highly respected development studio. It’s generating buzz as a spiritual successor to the popular Marvel vs. Capcom series. The game features impressive visuals, a challenging yet rewarding combat system, and a diverse roster of Marvel heroes and villains – including well-known characters like Spider-Man and Captain America, alongside lesser-known figures like Magik and Danger. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is scheduled for release in August 2026 and will also be playable on PC.
Horizon Hunters Gathering
One Of Two Co-Op Horizon Games Currently In Development
Sony has been working to grow the world of Horizon for quite some time. That’s why they’re creating two new cooperative games: Horizon Steel Frontiers, which will be available on mobile devices, and Horizon Hunters Gathering, a game for PlayStation 5 and PC. Horizon Hunters Gathering will let up to three players team up to take down dangerous machines in a variety of modes, and early looks at the game are very encouraging.
The biggest change in Horizon Hunters Gathering is its art style – it’s much brighter and more cartoonish than the realistic look of past Horizon games. Some longtime fans aren’t thrilled it’s a multiplayer-only game, but the game will include a story-driven campaign with new characters and mysteries, and even feature familiar faces like Aloy and Erend. Hopefully, this will keep fans satisfied while they wait for Horizon 3.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora
The Sequel To One Of The Most Distinct Games On The PS5 Catalog
In 2021, indie developer Ember Lab launched Kena: Bridge of Spirits, an action-adventure game often compared to 3D Zelda. It received a lot of attention for its beautiful, cinematic animation, though some players found the gameplay itself lacking. Now, Ember Lab is creating a direct sequel, aiming to build upon the original game’s concepts and address previous criticisms.
The upcoming game, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, promises to be a significant improvement over Bridge of Spirits. Players can expect enhanced graphics, a more developed main character, more complex combat, and a large, open world to explore. With its charming, cartoon-like visuals, it’s a welcome addition to the PS5 library – and it will also be available on PC.
