At the Humble Games March 2025 Showcase, one game that could steal the spotlight might not be a fresh unveiling, but its launch is sure to captivate enthusiasts of indie animation and traditional animated musicals. This game, Billie Bust-Up, is published by Humble Games and offers players an engaging musical experience set within a 3D platformer environment.
In a recent spotlight, one of the standout games is “Billie Bust-Up,” which, while not entirely novel like “Town of Zoz” or the successor to “Star Fox” titled “Wild Blue,” is definitely worth getting enthusiastic about. Sharing a resemblance with games such as “A Hat in Time,” “Billie Bust-Up” is a 3D platformer, and its characters hail from Hazbin Hotel, making it particularly intriguing. The game takes inspiration from classic animated musicals, with the characters breaking into song throughout the gameplay—be it rhythm games or boss fights accompanied by catchy villain tunes.
Billie Bust-Up Has Top Notch Animation and Actors
Billie Bust-Up Already Looks Impressive And Has Some Big Talent Behind It
One method Billie Bust-Up has managed to draw online attention is by releasing intriguing musical sequences, particularly the villain songs that accompany its boss fights. Interestingly, villain songs with lyrics tend to be popular in games, even though they are not frequently used, such as in the soundtrack of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Consequently, it’s not surprising that many have developed a fondness for what’s been previewed so far.
Initially, players were acquainted with the game through a demo battle against a boss, accompanied by the tune “I’ve Had Enough of You.” Since then, tracks such as “A Million Gruesome Ways to Die” and “The Pirate Queen’s Cave is the Worst” have contributed to its growing fame. These songs, reminiscent of Disney’s villain melodies, have gained even more recognition due to the exceptional talent involved in their creation. What sets this game apart is the presence of accomplished composer Daniel Ingram working on its soundtrack, as well as some prominent indie voice actors.
The game features Michael Kovach, Ed Bosco, and Gabriel Brown (more commonly known as Black Gryph0n). They played key roles in the Hazbin Hotel pilot, taking on characters like Angel Dust, Alastor, and Alastor’s singing voice. Kovach has since gained significant recognition as a voice actor, appearing in various indie animation projects such as The Amazing Digital Circus, Lackadaisy, and Murder Drones. Brown and Bosco are equally well-known; Brown made headlines with his music, while Bosco has also gained prominence in the voice acting world.
Humble’s Showcase Unveils Some New Minigames
At The Humble Games Showcase 2025, the limelight was cast upon “Billie Bust-Up”. A brief trailer and a developer diary, featuring Daniel Ingram and music arranger Trevor Hoffmann, were presented. These two have worked together on numerous projects before. Although it didn’t unveil much fresh content, it did offer a sneak peek into a rhythm mini-game, which seemed to be a tutorial segment, as well as a flight mini-game. In the latter, the goat character Billie is shown gaining wings and navigating through rings in a beautiful cherry blossom forest.
