Black Desert Online Ending Support For Last-Gen Consoles

Game developer Pearl Abyss has declared they will no longer provide updates or technical assistance for Black Desert Online on older console systems.

In a recently posted video, the developers announced that the next-gen update for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will be released on June 26, 2025. From this date forward, the game will only be available as an exclusive title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, meaning the support for the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (which launched in 2019) will no longer be provided.

According to Black Desert console’s live service manager, Brian Choi, the option to play the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will cease following the update scheduled for June 26.

I’ll keep reassuring you, fellow gamers, that every bit of your progress in Black Desert Online is safe and sound. Whether it’s your character data or your account details, you can count on them being accessible when you decide to upgrade to the latest-gen console version of our game. Your entitlements to BDO will still be valid for the transition.

Choi acknowledged that this news might be disheartening for many of you. He went on to explain that Black Desert has been continually updated to enhance the gaming experience for adventurers. However, he clarified that, as previously stated in our video, despite continuous attempts to optimize and update content for older generation consoles, we’ve now reached a stage where the hardware constraints are making it progressively challenging to release the latest updates seamlessly.

Once the update rolls out, it won’t require any extra payment from those transitioning to the latest generation platforms.
