Earlier today, Ubisoft released details about a major company reorganization. The announcement explained the creation of new internal teams, called Creative Houses, designed to focus on developing different types of games.
The release was accompanied by some disappointing news, including job cuts, project cancellations, and postponements. The remake of Prince of Persia has been cancelled, and the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is now expected to be delayed, possibly by as much as a year.
Black Flag To Remain in Port for a While
Released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is still hailed as a top game in the series. It immerses players in the Golden Age of Piracy, putting them in command of a ship and crew, complete with the skills of an assassin. The game continues to stand out in many ways, and rumors about a potential remake have been a major topic of discussion among gamers for years.
Ubisoft’s latest announcement has disappointing news for those eagerly anticipating the Black Flag remake.
The company is also dedicating more development time to seven games to improve their quality and ensure they deliver lasting value. This includes a new game previously scheduled for release in the next fiscal year, which will now launch in the following year.
Currently, the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag appears to be the only game matching the details we have. Last year, TopMob reported it was planned for release this March, before the end of the fiscal year 2026. The fact that it hasn’t been officially announced also supports this information.
Because of the delay, the game isn’t expected to launch until 2027, meaning we might not see it for as long as a year. However, if the delay isn’t too extensive, it could arrive as early as May or June. Ubisoft and Vantage Studios haven’t yet confirmed the exact timing.
In addition to disappointing Ubisoft fans with recent cancellations, the company has also scrapped three new game ideas and an unreleased mobile game. This isn’t great news for Ubisoft, and unfortunately, it’s becoming a pattern for them.
