As a die-hard fan of Black Mirror, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about Season 7, and the latest cast announcement has me absolutely thrilled! The lineup is nothing short of stellar – Issa Rae, Awkwafina, Emma Corin, Peter Capaldi, Tracee Ellis Ross, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd… just to name a few. This season promises to be the most star-studded yet, and I can hardly contain my excitement!
Excitedly, I can’t help but share the news that I’m personally looking forward to Black Mirror Season 7! Ever since it became a Netflix original, this series has been renowned for its chilling explorations of technology’s dark side. The latest seasons have even brought on some big-name actors to add depth to their thought-provoking stories. With the stellar cast lined up for Season 7, it seems we’re in store for a truly star-studded experience. Whether this influx of A-listers will enhance or dilute the show’s quality remains to be seen, as some argue that the focus on big names might be masking certain narrative shortcomings.
Conversely, some renowned actors from the series have created standout episodes of “Black Mirror”. For instance, Jon Hamm’s performance in the Season 2 episode, “White Christmas”, is widely acclaimed due to his portrayal of a captivating con artist who ultimately meets an unfortunate fate. It’s clear that a high-profile cast isn’t necessarily a disadvantage, and the stars of this show have certainly demonstrated their acting prowess.
Who Are The Biggest Names In Black Mirror Season 7?
Typically, you’ll find familiar faces from TV and movies, and then there are stars who have become synonymous with household recognition, either through their film roles, TV performances, or a blend of both. Notable cast members for this season of Black Mirror include:
- Issa Rae
- Awkwafina
- Emma Corin
- Peter Capaldi
- Tracee Ellis Ross
- Paul Giamatti
- Rashida Jones
- Chris O’Dowd
In this initial list, there are several individuals who have a significant history in the realm of science fiction. However, Peter Capaldi distinguishes himself from the rest due to his tenure as the grumpier, older Doctor Who. Prior to her roles in Deadpool and Wolverine, Emma Corrin hadn’t done much sci-fi work. Yet, she compensated for her limited background by accepting the part of Cassandra Nova, the ruler of The Void and sister of Charles Xavier.
Recently, Rashida Jones featured in a series exploring the peculiarities of sci-fi, albeit not as grim as Black Mirror, in a show titled Sunny. Meanwhile, actresses like Awkwafina and Chris O’Dowd have graced the screen in films that share themes with sci-fi and superheroes, such as Thor: The Dark World and Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Amongst the star-studded main cast, there are several familiar faces whose names you might not immediately recall. (I’m a fan, and I sometimes find myself in this situation too!)
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed there are several other actors gracing the major cast in the upcoming season of Black Mirror. Although some of these faces might seem vaguely familiar, they haven’t quite made it to the level of instant recognition yet. However, their outstanding performances in this series could very well catapult them into household names by the time the streaming service airs this season.
- Milanka Brooks (Mum And I Don’t Talk Anymore)
- Patsy Ferran (Firebrand)
- Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099)
- Osy Ikhile (Citadel)
- Siena Kelly (Domino Day)
- Billy Magnussen (Road House)
- Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean)
- Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories)
- Harriet Walter (Succession)
Fans of Succession may eagerly anticipate the character role that Walter, who played the younger Roy siblings’ mother in Max series, will assume in Black Mirror. Will her persona be similar to the self-absorbed, wealthy Eurotrash she portrayed so convincingly, or will it be a stark departure from that?
Will More Stars Join Black Mirror Season 7?
It’s intriguing to consider whether Netflix may be holding back a surprise or two for the upcoming Season 7, given that it boasts numerous established actors. Notably, at least two of its stars have previously appeared in ‘Black Mirror’.
In Season 7, the show hasn’t specified the characters that most of the cast will play, but Netflix has hinted that a continuation of the highly acclaimed episode “USS Callister” is included. Characters Cristin Milioti and Jimmi Simpson were crew members in this episode, which portrayed AI replicas of people’s personalities being trapped in a world reminiscent of Star Trek, where they are compelled to undertake missions to combat aliens. The creator of this specific virtual reality software can be seen as a vengeful deity.
As of now, the list of stars for the show is being touted as complete by Netflix.
Currently, no other actors from “USS Callister” have been confirmed for Black Mirror Season 7. But it looks like there’s a good possibility that Jesse Plemons, the antagonist of the episode who got stuck in the virtual reality universe, might reappear.
It looks like that detail might be something Netflix would wait to reveal closer to the release date. Also, there’s a chance that Kirsten Dunst, Plemons’ wife, could make an appearance since she had a minor role in USS Callister. However, it seems unlikely that many other well-known actors will join the cast for Black Mirror Season 7 given the extensive list of names already announced.
