As a seasoned adventurer with countless battles under my belt, I can confidently say that the fight against Fuban, the colossal beetle, is one for the books. This buggy brute, with his horn sharper than a sabre and armor tougher than a knight’s, will give you quite the run for your money.
Should you be a curious monkey and successfully figure out the tasks for the Drunken Pig side mission in Chapter Two of Black Myth Wukong, you’ll unlock a hidden location – the Sahali region.
In this expansive playfield, I’m face-to-face with my old adversaries from the tainted heights of Yellow Wind Ridge – the very bosses I once wagered against. These formidable foes, now corrupted and twisted, are ready for a rematch.
1. Before the Tiger Vanguard transforms into a ruthless monster, you will encounter him. In fact, you may also assist the Yellow Wind Sage in defeating a boss together.
In this epic battle scene, you’ll face off against the colossal scarab beetle, Fuban, who might lead you to believe that Black Myth Wukong is striving to mirror the intrigue of Dune.
It’s a tricky fight, but with this guide, you should be fine.
How To Prepare For Fuban
In simpler terms, Fuban is a massive leader who mainly uses heavy and potent close-combat strikes. He also has jumps for a variety of attacks and can surprise you with stealthy assaults from below.
The most effective strategy for this battle would be to accumulate defensive equipment to absorb damage, and to equip yourself with powerful gear to deplete their substantial health quickly.
Firstly, I would suggest that you upgrade your Gourd for the second time before this fight. You will be able to do this if you take the time to acquire the Luojia Fragrant Vine from the village near X
1. Next, I recommend obtaining the Cloud Patterned Stone Staff, a reward from successfully completing the Buddha’s Eyeballs questline and defeating Shigandang. Additionally, you should be able to acquire either the Ebongold or Galeguard Beastmaw Armor sets.
Next up, let me propose enhancing abilities that boost my endurance, enhance the nimbleness and efficiency of my evasive maneuvers, and augment skills that expand my combat range.
How To Beat The Tiger Vanguard (Part Two)
Before making any progress, it’s crucial that you overcome the formidable Tiger Vanguard from times gone by, for they stand as a barrier preventing access to Fuban’s arena.
As a seasoned martial artist with years of experience under my belt, I must say that this upcoming fight seems to echo the intensity and gracefulness of the fight at Crouching Tiger Temple – a memory forever etched in my mind. However, I’m relieved to note that it won’t be anywhere near as exhausting. Here are some strategies I’ve learned over the years that could help you emerge victorious:
- This boss mainly relies on fast and relentless melee combos. So avoid all attacks before launching into a counter of your own.
- They will occasionally turn themselves to stone and render your attacks useless, so be wary of this, and watch your back when you fall for this deception.
- They have access to a few wide AOE attacks, so try to get some distance as he performs these attacks.
- At range, they can use slice shockwaves not dissimilar to the Whiteclad Noble
Overall, the battle is quite straightforward if you avoid being overly aggressive and attack only when they are in the middle of their combinations. Instead, concentrate on striking back during counters and effectively using your spells. This fight, in essence, shouldn’t be too challenging for you.
Next, make your way towards the Yellow Wind Sage who is close to the big drum, so they can call upon Fuban for you.
How To Defeat Fuban
Once Fuban emerges from the sandy expanse, you’re ready to confront them by gliding downwards. As you get closer, they’ll swiftly burrow under the ground only to resurface elsewhere within the expansive region. Typically, they reappear on the right side, so keep that in mind and make a run towards it to shorten the distance.
As they appear, they will execute their seemingly leisurely attack maneuver. Therefore, be patient, let them lose balance, and swiftly step aside to evade a collision. Follow up by swiftly attacking their limbs without delay.
As a devoted fan, I find it more convenient to opt for a free-roaming camera rather than trying to lock onto Fuban, given its massive size. Instead, I suggest you strategically place yourself right in front of one of its colossal arms for an unobstructed view and a more immersive gaming experience.
Here starts an extended phase during which you gradually deplete their Health Points (HP). Since they primarily rely on a wide, leisurely sweeping attack with their left and right arms that is slow and simple to dodge, you have ample opportunity to launch multiple combos for some time.
Occasionally, they may employ a tactic where they jab with their horn to attack, but if you manage to circle around its midsection, it’s likely that you won’t feel a thing because they won’t be able to effectively execute those attacks in that position.
As someone who has spent countless hours studying and observing these creatures, I can confidently say that you need to keep attacking them until they are down to around 60% health. At this point, they will burrow themselves under the sand, a behavior I’ve seen many times in my research. This time, though, it seems like they won’t resurface for quite some time. My experience tells me that these animals have an amazing ability to conserve energy and heal themselves, so it’s crucial not to let your guard down even when they disappear beneath the surface.
Initially, they’ll burrow towards you and jab their horns into the ground as a way to potentially strike you. Therefore, it’s important to stay vigilant and maintain some distance.
They’ll add a surprise move by lifting their horn high before slamming it down suddenly, and it’s crucial to time your evasion accurately at that moment. Finally, they’ll cap off this segment with not just one, but two consecutive jumping attacks that gradually descend.
As a devoted follower, here’s how I’d rephrase it: “At the moment, the Yellow Wind Sage will drive out Fuban by beating his drum vigorously. Later on, he will choose to ally with us, offering me the opportunity to battle side by side with this chapter’s central adversary.”
He’ll make the Beetle come out, and once it’s dazed, you can hop on its back to get the Vessel.
In this stage of the battle, the fight essentially becomes an easy victory, since the beetle only has a few clumsy rolling attacks left before being overpowered by your coordinated attack. Essentially, you can relax and enjoy the show as the Yellow Wind Sage depletes Fuban’s health bar on its own.
It’s safe to say that these beetles could harm you if you’re not careful, but the majority of the difficult tasks have been completed. Now, let’s wrap things up and eliminate them.
Rewards For Defeating Fuban
Should you successfully aid the Sage of the Yellow Wind and vanquish Fuban, you’ll be rewarded for your endeavors as follows:
- Wind Tamer’s Vessel
- Sky Piercing Horn
As a passionate player, I can’t help but express my excitement over The Wind Tamer’s Vessel! This fantastic reward significantly reduces damage during its activation and offers an added advantage by shielding you from wind-based attacks, making the Yellow Wind Sage battle significantly less challenging.
As a fan, I can vouch for the Sky Piercing Horn being an essential crafting item. This is because it paves the way for creating the Adept Spine Shooting Fuban Staff further along in your journey. Therefore, I strongly recommend putting in the effort to defeat that colossal insect, as the rewards are definitely worth it!
