Black Myth Wukong Knock-Off Appears on Nintendo Store

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experiences under my belt, I must say that the gaming world never ceases to surprise me, and not always in a good way. The latest arrival on the Nintendo e-shop, Wukong Sun: Black Legend, is yet another example of the copycat culture that has been plaguing our industry for far too long.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, it’s disappointing to learn that a copycat version of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science’s highly anticipated action RPG, has popped up on the Nintendo eShop. It feels like someone’s trying to capitalize on the hype without putting in the effort that goes into creating an original masterpiece.

In the Nintendo eShop, a game similar to Black Myth Wukong is named “Wukong Sun: Black Legend,” which makes its connection quite clear. This title will be available on December 26, 2024, for the Nintendo Switch and can be bought at $7.99. The cover art of this game bears a strong resemblance to the artwork used by Game Science for their original game. For those who may not know, Black Myth Wukong hasn’t been released on the Switch yet.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but feel disheartened when delving into the description of the so-called Black Myth Wukong imitation. Here’s an excerpt that leaves me concerned:

Venture on an incredible adventure in Wukong Sun: Black Legend! Assume the mantle of the legendary Monkey King, immortal Wukong, and engage in thrilling combat against fierce creatures and treacherous hazards that inhabit a tumultuous world. Delve into a narrative steeped in Chinese folklore, featuring intense battles, breathtaking landscapes, and iconic adversaries.

In contrast to the original Black Myth Wukong, the gameplay of Wukong Sun: Black Legend appears to be significantly distinct. Judging from the images on its store page, it seems this game is a 2D side-scroller featuring combat against various foes and bosses in four unique environments.

Clones and knocks-offs are not new in the gaming world; whenever any title goes viral, we see copies of that game floating around different stores. Last year, we saw a clone of The Last of Us appear on the Nintendo eShop, too, and just this month, a rip-off of Gary Zone Warfare was seen on the PlayStation Store.
