Black Ops 6 devs reveal how slow TTK compares to BOCW

As a seasoned Call of Duty veteran with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the revelation about Black Ops 6‘s time-to-kill (TTK) has piqued my curiosity. The slower pace seems to be a deliberate choice by Treyarch, and as someone who cut his teeth on the original Black Ops, I can appreciate the nod to the series’ roots.

Discussion about Time-to-Kill (Ttk) often heats up whenever a fresh Call of Duty game hits the market, and developers of Black Ops 6 have shared insights on how the upcoming release compares with its predecessors in this aspect.

Changing the time needed to defeat an opponent significantly affects the overall gaming experience. Faster Time-to-Kill (TTK) games are perceived as less tolerant, with smaller skill differences between players, requiring fewer shots for elimination. Conversely, games with longer TTKs move slower, providing more reaction time.

At Call of Duty Next, Treyarch disclosed that Black Ops 6 will lean towards a more deliberate pace, as they stated the Time-to-Kill (TTK) is merely “slightly faster” compared to Black Ops Cold War. Although no precise figures were given, this suggests that Black Ops 6 could be one of the slowest games in the series so far.

In many scenarios, the Time to Kill (TTK) in BOCW resembled that of Modern Warfare 3 from 2023, varying slightly according to factors such as weapon type, range, and body part targeted. Interestingly, both games were close contenders for the second-slowest TTK, but Black Ops 4 distinctly holds the title for the longest Time to Kill we’ve encountered thus far.

According to developers’ statements, the weapons in Black Ops 6 fire faster than players are accustomed to from MW3. However, they will not be as rapid-fire as those seen in Modern Warfare (2019) or MW2 (2022).

According to predictions from Call of Duty experts such as TheXclusiveAce, who analyzed early gameplay footage, the time-to-kill (TTK) for Assault Rifles seems to align with their expectations. This is because he found that the average TTK was approximately 320 milliseconds, which is remarkably close to that of Black Ops Cold War (BOCW).

We won’t know for sure until the Black Ops 6 beta starts on August 30, but given the slow Time to Kill (TTK) and the fact that all Sniper Rifles can instantly kill, it seems likely we might experience a Sniping-focused gameplay style (or “meta”) in this year’s multiplayer.
