As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that Black Ops 6 Zombies has taken the beloved mode to a whole new level. The addition of Elite Zombies like the Abomination, Margwa, and the infamous Pack-a-Punch machine, have made this game an unforgettable experience.
In Black Ops 6’s Zombie mode, a new layer of difficulty is introduced with the inclusion of Special and Elite zombies. These formidable zombies in Black Ops 6 can be tough to handle, making players wish to eliminate them for specific camo challenges or XP missions, or simply to speed up their removal.
Fortunately, several strategies exist for handling the unique and superior zombies, along with pinpointing their precise locations. Each of these zombie variants boasts distinct abilities, yet what’s crucial is recognizing their vulnerabilities – weaknesses that players can capitalize on for maximum efficiency in eliminating them swiftly.
Special Zombie – Mangler (& How to Beat Them)
- Found in: Liberty Falls & Terminus
- Critical Hit Spots: Arm Cannon & Head (after shooting the helmet off)
- Effective Ammo Mod: Napalm Burst
In the game, the Mangler is the sole type of unique Zombie and can be encountered in both Terminus and Liberty Falls. Starting from Round 11, Manglers will start appearing, with additional spawns typically happening every round or two. As players advance to higher rounds, the number of Manglers may increase significantly, leading some to encounter as many as 6 or even 10 Manglers during a single game.
Mangler creatures possess several strategies for attack, primarily utilizing the Mangler Cannon affixed to their right appendage. This weapon can follow and target players, discharging a harmful, slowing blast. Since it’s challenging to dodge this attack, consider turning corners or attempting to shoot at the cannon arm to thwart the charging shot. In addition to the Mangler Cannon, these creatures can become enraged if either their helmet or arm is destroyed, causing them to accelerate beyond the speed of zombies and charge straight toward players, using their lethal sword arm to attack.
Intriguingly, Manglers exhibit a peculiar vulnerability: Bullets fired using the Napalm Burst Ammo Mod inflict higher damage on them. Moreover, there are two critical points to aim for when targeting Manglers. The primary and crucial one is the Mangler Cannon’s arm. Persistent fire directed at this area will eventually destroy the cannon, causing the Mangler to sustain additional damage. Alternatively, players can rely on headshots assisted by Deadshot Daiquiri, but they’ll need to pierce through the armor on their helmets first.
A safer method to defeat a Mangler is by using a Submachine Gun (SMG), Assault Rifle, or Sniper Rifle. Approaching with the Jet Gun or a melee weapon after Pack-a-Punching it could potentially be quite hazardous. With weapons that have longer range, players can easily dodge the Mangler Cannon blast and swiftly fire at it, inflicting more headshot damage than explosives would be capable of.
Elite Zombie – Amalgam (& How to Beat Them)
- Found in: Terminus
- Critical Hit Spots: Glowing yellow heads across its body
- Effective Ammo Mods: Dead Wire & Shadow Rift
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve come to know that on the Terminus map, there’s an extraordinary zombie type known as the Amalgam – a formidable elite undead creature that only appears starting from Round 16, never before. These monstrosities don’t just pop up every round; they have a pattern of appearing every 3 or 4 rounds. Here’s the catch: usually, you’ll encounter one Amalgam at a time, but occasionally, two might materialize simultaneously. So, it’s crucial to stay vigilant when dealing with these creatures as their speed may not be terrifyingly fast, but the damage they can inflict is nothing short of severe.
A tactic to overcome an Amalgam is maintaining a safe distance from it. Amalgams primarily use melee attacks, but if players get too near, the Amalgam can grapple them, dragging them towards its numerous limbs. On higher rounds, this could almost instantly kill the player, which becomes even more hazardous since players are surrounded by the Amalgam and a horde of zombies within the train.
Amalgams are vulnerable to Dead Wire and Shadow Rift bullet types, taking increased damage from weapons equipped with these modifications. Moreover, they possess critical points on their glowing eyes scattered throughout their distorted bodies; striking these areas inflicts additional harm. It’s important to note that as an Amalgam becomes weaker, it may capture nearby zombies for a health boost.
The best way to kill an Amalgam is through rapid bursts of gunfire. It’s always best to focus the Amalgam first as its charge can knock down zombies to disrupt trains, and its health pool is rather large, so Pack-a-Punched explosives and other hard-hitting weapons like the mesmerizing alt-fire of the DRI-11 Beamsmasher will work great.
Elite Zombie – Abomination (& How to Beat Them)
- Found in: Liberty Falls
- Critical Hit Spots: Open Mouth (whichever of the three is open and blue)
- Effective Ammo Mods: Napalm Burst & Brain Rot
On Liberty Falls, you’ll encounter unique zombies known as Abominations, which are elite versions of the undead. These monsters appear exclusively after Round 16, and typically there’s only one in existence at any moment. Due to their ability to fire electric attacks from their mouths and charge like enraged bulls to stun players, causing significant damage, it’s advisable to keep a safe distance from them whenever possible.
The best way to take care of an Abomination is to remain at a distance. Usually, the Abomination is too slow to keep up with the zombie horde, and it will simply growl and try to charge. When it does so, just use omnimovement to get out of its way, and try to wait until there’s a break in the action to take it out, as focusing solely on it with a horde of zombies is a death sentence, and its hide is too thick for bullets to pierce. Abominations also have a ranged attack, where they will ground themselves and open their mouths to shoot a lightning blast from all three mouths. While this attack doesn’t deal the most damage, its continuous fire has quite the range that can easily melt players who are already in a pinch.
Abominations are vulnerable to two types of Ammo Modifications: Napalm Burst and Brain Rot. Players should opt for weapons equipped with these ammo mods to attack the glowing blue maw of the Abomination, similar to damaging the Margwa in Black Ops 3. When the Abomination receives enough damage on one head, it will explode like a balloon – causing the Abomination to become even more furious and charge more frequently.
In combat against monstrous Abominations, you’ll find they possess a specific vulnerability: you can hurl powerful explosives such as Semtex or Frags straight into their mouths. If done correctly, the Abomination will ingest the grenade, leading to an immediate explosion of its head. This tactic proves particularly effective in extended battles when Abominations have high health levels. When engaging Abominations in battle, be sure to equip explosives or rapid-fire SMGs that dish out quick damage and benefit from Deadshot Daiquiri for enhanced precision.
