Black Ops 6’s 40-player mode could bring back divisive Cold War playlist

As a seasoned veteran of the Call of Duty universe, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia and anticipation upon hearing the rumors of Fireteam potentially making a comeback in Black Ops 6. I remember the chaos, the excitement, and the heart-pounding adrenaline rushes that Fireteam brought to the table in Cold War. It was a breath of fresh air, a new take on the traditional multiplayer experience that promised larger scales and more strategic teamwork.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 offers a return to traditional 6-versus-6 multiplayer and a resurgence of the popular round-based Zombie mode. However, it might reintroduce a divisive multiplayer aspect that was featured in Cold War.

As ‘JedRhino’, I recently stumbled upon some intriguing details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on the PlayStation store. It’s confirmed that this game can accommodate up to 40 online players if you’ve got PS Plus. While it could be either Ground War or Invasion, there’s a glimmer of hope that Fireteam might make a comeback!

It appears that the leakers have an inkling of a major game mode upcoming for Black Ops 6, but they’re uncertain about its specifics. Back in July, ‘Vondyispog’ posted on Twitter, “A 20 vs 20 mode is expected to be released after the launch of Black Ops 6.”

Initially, they believed it might resemble the Cold War’s Combined Arms (similar to Ground War). However, they added a possibility that Fireteam could resurface too, and this was also the consensus among players discussing it on Reddit.

In Black Ops Cold War, Fireteam was a multiplayer mode that made its debut and generated much anticipation, but it appeared to lose traction fairly rapidly. This gameplay style involved 10 teams, each consisting of four players, who were dropped onto different parts of the Ural Mountains map. Their mission was to accomplish objectives and engage in combat with one another.

Despite a devoted fanbase due to its thrilling games, it failed to gain widespread popularity because it was challenging to locate active lobbies without enough participants queuing up. While the squad-oriented gameplay received accolades, solo players frequently found it either dull or aggravating as uncoordinated team members often engaged in aimless fighting or pursued their individual objectives instead of working together.

The advertised multiplayer mode for up to 40 players may not be Fireteam, but if it reappears in Black Ops 6, it could undergo significant alterations to its structure due to its mixed response.

As a die-hard gamer, I can’t contain my excitement! On August 28, the Call of Duty Next event is happening, dishing out all the deets about Black Ops 6 and its multiplayer modes that we’ve been eagerly waiting for. And guess what? The beta starts just a couple of days later! It’s time to gear up for some action!
