Black Ops 6’s slow TTK could make snipers insanely OP

As a long-time Call of Duty gamer with hundreds of hours under my belt, I’ve seen how the series has evolved over the years, and I’m excited to share my thoughts on Black Ops 6’s time to kill (TTK) based on the recent revelations.

An authority on Call of Duty has explored the reveal of Black Ops 6 with great detail in an attempt to determine its average time until a player is eliminated. The finding? It might be among the longest kill times in the game’s history.

TheXclusiveAce, a well-known YouTube creator, endeavored to determine Black Ops Cold War’s time-to-kill (TTK) by closely examining multiple gameplay clips from Microsoft’s Xbox Showcase event in June 2024.

I watched the recent gameplay showcase and took note of some weapons that caught my eye. Among them were the Ames 85 Assault Rifle, AR 10 LMG, and SIG SG 542 burst rifle. Although their official names have yet to be confirmed, I’m optimistic that we’ll get to use these bad boys when the game launches. We got a rough sense of their RPM (rounds per minute) and TTK (time to kill), which gave us a good idea of their power and handling.

Based on TheXclusiveAce’s report, the Ames 85 gun is expected to spin at 750 RPM, and after reviewing multiple video clips, they estimate that it will take five hits to the target for a kill, with a time-to-kill approximated at about 320 milliseconds.

Through comparable calculation, the YouTuber determined that the AR 10’s time-to-kill (TTK) is approximately 215 milliseconds, while the SIG SG 542’s TTK is around 217 milliseconds.

From my perspective as an eager fan, these figures represent a tentative estimate of Battlefield 2042’s Time to Kill (TTK) based on clips shown during the showcase. However, please keep in mind that TTK could undergo adjustments between now and launch, making these numbers potentially inexact.

To put it another way, after making that observation, it appears that Treyarch intends to adopt a more leisurely time-to-kill (TTK) for Black Ops Cold War prior to its release. This was pointed out by a content creator who made a comparison of these values with other Call of Duty games in a graphical representation, revealing that Black Ops 6 could potentially have one of the slowest TTKs in the series’ history.

“The times it takes us to eliminate opponents in Black Ops Cold War (BOCW) align with those in Black Oops Multiplayer (TTKs). TheXclusiveAce commented, ‘It seems our ability to finish off enemies in Black Ops 6 might be roughly equal to that of Black Ops Cold War.'”

As a devoted fan of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, I’m thrilled about the prospect of using sniper rifles in this upcoming game. The developers have announced that a hit to the torso or above will result in an instant kill for snipers. While they plan to adjust factors like fire rate and recoil for balance, based on Cold War’s experience, snipers might become overpowered compared to other weapon classes due to their longer time-to-kill (TTK).

Keep in mind that the data here is based on a limited number of samples. Consequently, the average time-to-kill (TTK) for each weapon category may significantly vary when more samples are analyzed.

At CoD Next, we’ll have a clearer understanding of the Time to Kill (TTK) in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 during the beta testing. Early access to the beta is available for those who pre-order the game.
