Summary
- Ikkaku has been in 7 intense battles, showing courage despite his personal feelings affecting his fights.
- Zaraki Kenpachi, with 8 battles, has an unpredictable fighting style and takes on powerful opponents like Gremmy and Gerard.
- Hitsugaya impressively fights in 10 battles, showcasing power with Hyorinmaru against foes like Gin, Aizen, and Harribel.
As a seasoned Bleach fan and scholar, I must say that the experiences of these characters truly reflect the depth and richness of this extraordinary anime. The number of battles each character engages in mirrors their growth, resilience, and determination.
In addition to its iconic character styles and profoundly meaningful narrative, the Bleach series is equally recognized for its thrilling fight sequences. Within the Bleach universe, Soul Reapers and Arrancar wielding swords seem to converse in combat, leading to numerous exhilarating battles throughout the series, with several recurring characters participating in more than a few of these intense encounters.
Throughout the series of Bleach, almost every fighter had their moment to display their capabilities at least once. However, certain characters frequently wielded their Zanpakuto against enemies, resulting in numerous battles that showcased their skills and unique techniques to viewers on multiple occasions.
Since the anime hasn’t concluded yet, potentially featuring additional battles, we’ll only tally up fights from the manga to decide who has engaged in the most conflicts.
8. Ikkaku Madarame
Number Of Fights: 7
Though not holding a captain’s title, Ikkaku consistently demonstrates remarkable courage, engaging numerous adversaries across the series and frequently surpassing his own limits in the process to vanquish them. In his initial battle against Ichigo, he was outmatched due to underestimating the abilities of his new opponent as a Substitute Soul Reaper.
He would then have numerous battles throughout the Arrancar Arc which is the first time Ikkaku unleashes his ferocious Bankai. However, Ikkaku isn’t a perfect fighter, as Iba reminds him during Fake Karakura Town when he tells Ikkaku that his personal feelings can often get the best of him and can end up costing him battles. Still, he’s proven to be a reliable soldier who his captain, Kenpachi, can always rely on when the going gets tough.
7. Zaraki Kenpachi
Number Of Battles: 8
It’s no wonder that Kenpachi, known for his insatiable appetite for battle and delight in wielding his sword against any obstacle, is included on this list. Among the captains, Kenpachi was one of the select few granted two battles during the Soul Society arc. However, his tenure was short-lived as he swiftly volunteered to confront both Yammy and Nnoitra in the Arrancar saga, thereby earning a prominent role in the story’s narrative.
In the final conflict, Kenpachi saw a considerable increase in his fight count as he clashed with characters such as Gremmy, Unohana, and even Gerard Valkyrie. Fans have been thrilled to witness so many battles featuring Kenpachi, particularly those in which he acquires new abilities, like the initial usage of his Shikai and Bankai.
6. Toshiro Hitsugaya
Number Of Battles: 10
I, an observer, bear witness to Hitsugaya, a child prodigy who swiftly ascended through the ranks to become a formidable captain in our midst. This beloved character is a mighty Soul Reaper, wielding Hyorinmaru, a Zanpakuto that annihilates opponents with frost-laden strikes. Over the course of the series, we’ve been fortunate enough to watch him engage numerous adversaries. His initial confrontation was against fellow captain Gin Ichimaru at the onset, followed by encounters with the enigmatic Aizen and ultimately, Harribel when the fearsome Arrancar invaded our realm.
Among Hitsugaya’s less recognized battles, one notable instance occurs in the Fullbring Arc when he confronts Yukio. However, it’s during the climax of the series that he truly comes into his own, having ample opportunities to showcase his skills. In addition to engaging in combat with Bazz B and later Gerard Valkyrie, Hitsugaya even attempts to challenge Mayuri when he was momentarily transformed into a zombie. Unfortunately for the young captain, this confrontation does not turn out favorably for him.
5. Uryu Ishida
Number Of Battles: 10
Due to the fact that Ichigo tends to face the major battles in each arc, Uryu’s fights can sometimes be overlooked, as they might seem less prominent. However, Uryu has been involved in quite a few intense battles, and some of his most memorable include his encounter with captain Mayuri and his duel with Szayelaporro, although the latter battle is lengthy due to numerous comedic moments inserted throughout it.
Uryu displays remarkable resilience in his confrontations with Haschwalth towards the series finale. If we were to factor in his anime performances, the count would significantly increase given his transformation into a formidable one-Quincy weapon. However, since there may be more battles in store for him in the future, an exact tally remains uncertain at this point.
4. Renji Abarai
Number Of Battles: 10
In every battle Renji engages in, he undergoes significant mental and physical transformation, transforming him into almost a completely new individual when he appears in the Thousand Year Blood War. His duel with Ichigo within Soul Society motivated Renji to challenge his own captain as a means of resisting Rukia’s punishment. Later, Renji demonstrated his loyalty to Ichigo by accompanying him to Hueco Mundo and collaborating with Uryu to confront Szayelaporro, where he had the opportunity to explore his Zanpakuto abilities further.
Ever since my clash with Jackie during the Fullbring Arc and later receiving tutelage from Squad 0, I’ve left quite a trail of destruction behind me, taking down Mask De Masculine and numerous other Sternritter throughout the war. By the end of the manga, my power had reached an absurd level, making me a force to be reckoned with. While the anime did a fantastic job of showcasing my abilities, it would have been thrilling to engage in a few more high-stakes battles during the latter stages of the story as depicted in the original source material.
3. Rukia Kuchiki
Number Of Battles: 10
In spite of being incarcerated for almost the entire Soul Society storyline, Rukia had previously engaged in multiple battles against Hollows, such as defeating Fishbone D and Shrieker. Later fights would emerge with the appearance of the Arrancar, where she valiantly tried to contain Grimmjow, and even squared off against Di Roy Rinker. However, her crucial battle at that point was against Aaroneiro.
In an attempt to deceive, Arroneiro will transform himself into Rukia’s deceased friend Kaien. This move will compel Rukia to confront and overcome her distressing memories in order to vanquish the wicked Espada permanently. Subsequently, a comical skirmish between Riruka and Rukia will be juxtaposed against a harrowing battle with As Nodt where Rukia ultimately unveils her Bankai. Later on, she’ll lend a hand in thwarting the remaining Arrancar after As Nodt has been defeated.
2. Byakuya Kuchiki
Number Of Battles: 10
For a stretch, it seemed like every screen presence of Byakuya was during a fierce fight, given his role as the main antagonist in many Soul Society storylines. However, while his battles against Ichigo, Zommari, and As Nodt are memorable, it’s worth remembering that Byakuya has engaged in numerous sword fights with other characters across the series as well.
Byakuya, as captain, doesn’t flinch from using his Zanpakuto when he perceives a threat to him or Sereitei. In various encounters, such as his confrontation with Renji, intellectual duel with Tsukishima, and peculiar showdown against Pepe, Byakuya demonstrates this assertiveness. Instead of resorting to dialogue to resolve conflicts, he tends to shatter his adversaries swiftly with a volley from Senbonzakura.
1. Ichigo Kurosaki
Number Of Battles: 34
In the series, Ichigo has fought numerous battles, making it challenging for fans to pick a favorite due to the wide variety available. Some notable encounters include when Ichigo’s Hollow Powers manifested during his fight with Byakuya for the first time, and his intense clashes with Grimmjow and Ulquiorra that tested Ichigo’s limits. The battle destined by fate against Aizen is also unforgettable, as he lost his Soul Reaper powers in the struggle, but it didn’t deter him from continuing to fight.
As a Fullbringer, Ichigo would find himself embroiled in numerous battles, confronting various members of the Quincy army, including multiple showdowns against Yhwach. The transformation Ichigo undergoes from his initial skirmishes with weak Hollows at the start of the series to the formidable figure he becomes by the end, highlights the immense growth he experiences through participating in so many intense battles throughout the narrative.
