As a longtime fan of Bleach, I must say that episode 6 of Part 3 was a rollercoaster ride for me. The introduction of Yhwach’s new form and his redecoration of the Soul King’s Palace left me quite unsettled, much like my feelings towards clowns or overly enthusiastic door-to-door salespeople.

The following contains spoilers for BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, Episode 6, “The Holy Newborn”, available on Hulu and Disney+.

In the 6th part of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, various groups such as Shinigami, Quincies, Fullbringers, and even Hollows are joining forces to execute a strategy aimed at accessing the Soul King’s Palace. Yet, with his newly acquired strength, Yhwach has reconstructed it in a manner reminiscent of how he seized control over Las Noches in Hueco Mundo.

In a captivating episode that balanced both drama and humor, characters such as Grimmjow Jaegerjacquez and Nelliel Tu Odelschwank, along with a few more recognizable figures, reappear and join forces with Ichigo and his companions.

This castle serves as the base for a brand-new, authentic world. Eventually, it will be recognized as True World, or Wahr Welt.

We Knew All Along

Ichigo Is Pleasantly Surprised To See Some Old Acquaintances

Continuing from the last episode’s events, Urahara has handed out Kukaku’s spirit particles to the troops below, harnessing their power to open a gateway to the Soul King’s Palace, thanks to the clever planning and swift actions of Urahara and Yoruichi Shihōin. Meanwhile, closer to the crime site, Ichigo and his companions encounter Grimmjow Jaegerjacquez who, surprisingly, is eager for a fight, but before things escalate, Nelliel surfaces from the Garganta’s mouth, momentarily throwing off Grimmjow, and playfully tackling Ichigo to the ground. This amusing scene leaves Orihime feeling slightly envious, more so since Nel will remain in her adult form due to Urahara’s technology for the time being.

As Ichigo looks on in surprise at the sight of the Arrancar, his astonishment deepens when Riruka Dokugamine and Yukio Hans Vorarlberna, once members of Xcution, emerge from the Garganta too. To add to the intrigue, one of Riruka’s signature “dollhouses” takes on a fascinating new form under the influence of Yukio’s power.

Their combination allows them to navigate safely through the dangerous Precipice World, traveling between realms to reach the Soul King’s Palace. When Ichigo wonders why his friends are comfortable being near Grimmjow, they explain that they were aware of his involvement since they were in Hueco Mundo during the initial story arc of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. Inside Riruka’s dollhouse, Yoruichi explains their upcoming journey, and despite traveling such a long distance, Yukio declares he won’t be joining them. He seldom looks away from the screen of his “PSP”.

Ichigo decides that Riruka, who adores anything cute and is a well-known tsundere character, should also stay behind. This decision brings about a variety of expressive facial reactions from her, similar to the early days of Byakuya’s blushing, adding more humor to this group of characters.

Biblically Accurate Yhwach Does Some Redecorating

The Quincy King’s First Display of Ultimate Power

After absorbing the power of the Soul King, Yhwach has undergone a strange, alien transformation. A shimmering veil of shadow, reminiscent of the grotesque eyeball monsters that emerged from the torrent of the Soul King’s power in the last episode, now conceals where his eyes typically are. This veil is punctured with numerous, pulsating eyes that exude a disturbing ebb and flow, even causing his Schutzstaffel to tremble. However, he reassures them, saying “Fear not.” Then, he demolishes the remnants of the Soul King’s Palace and rebuilds it into the shape of the Wandenreich’s five-pointed star.

The result is a castle similar to the Silbern that they erected in Hueco Mundo, but far grander in its presentation. The European architecture complete with a “frosted over” look gives the new palace, Welt, a very eerie feeling which is augmented by the fact that the Quincies have a monopoly over the reishi in the area, which will complicate the final battle even further.

As a gamer, I found myself in the thick of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War, where my character, Kurotsuchi, was attempting to crack open a gateway to the Soul King’s Palace. The Reiatsu levels were low, but luckily, Kurotsuchi had an ace up his sleeve – a Reiatsu Amplifier!
