Summary
- Blizzard has confirmed a recent DDoS attack on Battle.net, causing login issues, high latency, and disconnections.
- The issue has since been resolved for most, but players still having trouble logging in have been advised to run connection troubleshooting.
As a passionate fan, I’ve learned that recently, Blizzard Entertainment has been under attack. Specifically, they’ve experienced a DDoS attack that’s been disrupting Battle.net services, causing login problems and other inconveniences for players like me. Known for their American origins and as a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Blizzard is the brilliant mind behind iconic intellectual properties such as World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch.
Battle.net, initially launched in 1996 as Blizzard’s online gaming platform, changed its name to “Blizzard Battle.net” in 2017 but reverted back to its original name in 2021. This service supports all the studio’s contemporary games like Hearthstone, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and several Call of Duty titles. Unfortunately, Blizzard experienced another DDoS attack in 2020, causing Battle.net servers to malfunction, preventing players from accessing their games. Fortunately, the recent attack has been mostly resolved.
On April 3, it was reported on social media platforms that Battle.net, operated by Blizzard, was under a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. This resulted in delayed responses, disconnections, and even troubles with logging in for some players, reminiscent of the login issues faced by users during Final Fantasy 14’s 7.2 update which had also been targeted by DDoS attacks. Blizzard acknowledged the problem and stated they were taking active steps to counter the attack. On April 4, they announced that the issue had been resolved. However, despite confirming that login issues had been addressed, some players continued to encounter problems accessing Battle.net. To help these players, Blizzard recommended running troubleshooting procedures for connection-related problems if login issues persisted.
Blizzard Confirms Recent DDoS Attack That Targeted Battle.net
To appease gamers dealing with technical glitches, Blizzard has earlier resurrected Hardcore characters from World of Warcraft that were lost due to another DDoS attack, sparking questions about the recurring cyber problems. Numerous social media users have voiced their concerns following the DDoS announcement, demanding improved security measures from Blizzard. Moreover, some Warcraft players have inquired if they would receive any compensation for the time spent playing the game due to the recent series of DDoS attacks.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about my all-time favorite series, StarCraft! Four prominent Korean developers – Netmarble, Nexon, Krafton, and NCSoft – have proposed innovative concepts for taking this cherished sci-fi franchise forward. From envisioning a new mobile game to exploring the RPG genre, these titans of gaming are eager to steer the next StarCraft project. It’s been since 2017 when the remastered version was released, so we fans can hardly contain our excitement as we eagerly anticipate fresh content in the pipeline!
