Highlights

  • Bloodborne now runs at over 120+ FPS on PC with an uncapped framerate.
  • Emulation for the game still has flaws despite progress by modders.
  • Bloodborne port could pave the way for more PlayStation exclusives on PC if successful.

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated the treacherous lands of Yharnam multiple times, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation at the prospect of experiencing Bloodborne on my PC. The thought of running around the haunted city with smooth, silky 120+ FPS frame rates is almost too good to be true.

Since FromSoftware and Sony have stopped discussing Bloodborne in any context, enthusiastic fans have stepped up and appear to be more united than ever in their efforts to port this almost decade-old game onto personal computers.

Using ShadPS4, a fledgling PlayStation 4 emulator, modifiers successfully managed to finally optimize Bloodborne’s assets and achieve smooth performance at 120+ frames per second (FPS), which is an impressive fourfold increase over the console’s 30 FPS graphic cap.

Though there’s been considerable advancement with the modding work on this ongoing project since our last encounter, it’s essential to acknowledge that the emulation performance remains imperfect and is yet to reach a stage where players can have an enjoyable gaming experience.

It appears that there are no limits to achieving high frame rates, since the tester managed to reach 331 frames per second when testing the most recent version of the custom Bloodborne port on a PC.

Initially conceived as a venture to elevate one of FromSoftware’s top intellectual properties, it appears that this project may turn out to be a significant enhancement rather than what we initially anticipated. Regrettably, there are numerous games that are confined within the exclusivity of Sony’s PlayStation. However, this could potentially be the key to unlocking Bloodborne and granting it access to other platforms.

Why Bloodborne Remains A Console Exclusive

Moving from “Ghost of Tsushima” to the forthcoming PC version of “God of War: Ragnarok”, it’s clear that Sony has been focusing more on catering to players who prefer playing video games on personal computers lately.

Yet, their decision to not formally transfer Bloodborne raises curiosity as to whether they’ve intentionally sidestepped it, given the enormous enthusiasm for the Soulsborne saga’s epic.

For the time being, the solution to this conundrum remains elusive, but enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting whatever the studio unveils, including a fundamental update of the game, which is expected to bring it in line with modern console standards.

As a longtime fan of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s work, I can confidently say that Bloodborne is one of his absolute masterpieces. The game captivated me from the moment I stepped foot in Yharnam and was left yearning for more after finishing The Old Hunter DLC in November 2015. It’s a genuine shame that the IP seems to have been abandoned since then, but I remain hopeful that we might return to this hauntingly beautiful world someday. As someone who has spent countless hours exploring its twisted alleys and battling its formidable foes, I can only wish for more adventures in Yharnam’s dark corners.
