Blue Exorcist: Blue Night Saga Episode Count Revealed

Summary

  • Blue Night Saga is now airing on Crunchyroll, part of the new arc in Blue Exorcist. (85 characters)
  • Studio VOLN handles the series, with the arc likely to have 12 episodes, revealing Rin’s past. (93 characters)
  • The anime is catching up with the manga, covering volumes 22 to 25, maintaining quality. (89 characters)

The popular series, Blue Exorcist, came back with a new storyline recently, and now the much-awaited chapters of the Blue Night Saga are being broadcast, following the holiday pause. Enthusiasts can catch it streaming on Crunchyroll.

Studio VOLN has taken over the series from the third season, replacing A-1 Pictures, and just recently, the new opening and ending themes were revealed along with the premiere of a new story arc. Surprisingly, viewers thought it might take a while longer for Studio VOLN to begin adapting the “Blue Night Saga”.

Based on the details available about the home video releases for the new cour, there are 12 listed episodes (two volumes of DVD/Blu-ray releases are planned). Historically, information from DVD releases has proven to be reliable, so it’s not impossible, but unlikely that this story arc will have more than 12 episodes.

The Blue Night Saga

The “Blue Night Saga,” often referred to as the “Blue Night Remembrance” arc, is rich with insights into Rin Okuruma’s backstory and origins. The Blue Night is a pivotal moment in the series’ history, sparking great interest among fans (including those yet to read the manga). Furthermore, Mephisto Pheles, a crucial character in this plotline, will likely feature prominently.

Because it continues from the Fall 2024 Anime Season, the principal team and actors stay consistent. Consequently, viewers can anticipate the show preserving its high quality in these aspects as well.

The Anime Is Now Catching Up With the Manga

In volumes 22 to 25 of the series, there are a total of 21 chapters that make up this particular storyline. As the Beyond the Snow arc (consisting of 16 chapters) was adapted into an entire season in one go for the Winter 20XX anime, it seems improbable that this arc will also be fully covered during the Winter 2025 Anime Season. Following the Blue Night Saga is the currently running Of One Cloth arc.

Ever since the Blue Night Saga in our beloved manga has experienced some pauses lately, I can’t help but wonder about its future direction. It seems they could decide to take a brief hiatus from the adaptation, allowing our talented creator, Kazue Kato, ample time to complete this captivating arc.

Right now, you can catch up with Blue Exorcist on Crunchyroll. The upcoming episode will be available on January 11, 2025. Earlier seasons of this show are aired on Toonami as well.
