Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus Steam update adds cloud saves, tweaks boss fight

As a dedicated fan of Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, I am thrilled to hear about the recent update that Squid Shock Studios has rolled out for the PC version on Steam. As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in this enchanting game, I can attest to the frustrations that have been plaguing players during late-game boss battles and other edge cases.

1. Squid Shock Studios, the developer, has revealed that they’re updating Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus. This new version introduces cloud saving functionality for the PC edition available on Steam.

As an enthusiastic supporter, I’d like to share some insights from the recent update post on Steam directly from the developers themselves. In essence, they aimed to address several critical issues that were relatively straightforward to implement in this initial patch, version 1.0.7. Their intention was to release this update swiftly given their current resource constraints, which have been impacted by the absence of previous publishing support.

1. “The team at the studio notes they’re still addressing several issues, such as peculiar glitches that appear to be rare occurrences (edge cases). They believe that the recent modifications made will significantly alleviate the frustrations many gamers have faced during their gameplay sessions.”

In addition to cloud saves, a common criticism towards Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is about the challenging late-game boss battle chase scenes. To alleviate annoyances, save shrines have been incorporated at the start of each room during these sequences. Surprisingly, this part was reportedly even more difficult prior to this adjustment.

There are a few other changes of major note from the blog post, as follows:

  • The names of each area now appear on the map once the player enters the main entrance of the area for the first time.
  • “Bunny Blossom” map icons have now been added to the map if you have encountered them in your playthrough. Keep in mind that these might need to refresh for some players depending on when you encountered them.

An “Egg-Saving Sanctuary” has been placed to the right of the fragile egg’s starting point in the Ice Caverns’ Western Column. This sanctuary aims to minimize the need for players to retrace their steps once they’ve cracked the delicate egg.

There has also been economy changes, with boss battles giving more resources when beaten.

regretfully, I must share that this recent update is exclusively for PC gamers at the moment. The developer shared on X/Twitter that quality assurance (QA) support was intertwined with the Humble Games deal (sadly, the publisher has ceased operations). They’re currently working diligently to figure out how they can bring updates to consoles, but it might take some time before everything is set in place.

Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is out now for PC and consoles.
