During the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Super Bomberman Collection was surprisingly released immediately after being announced. This means players with a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S can now buy and enjoy the game.
Man, Bomberman has been around forever! It first came out way back in 1983 on some early Japanese computers – Hudson Soft made it originally, but now Konami owns it. Over the last forty years, they’ve made a ton of different Bomberman games – over 80, actually! Everything from direct sequels to arcade versions and even stuff for handheld consoles. It’s even gone beyond games, with its own manga and anime series too. It’s seriously a classic!
Super Bomberman Collection Is Available Now on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
The Super Bomberman Collection, featuring seven classic Bomberman games, is now available digitally for $19.99 on the Nintendo eShop, Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation stores. A physical copy will also be released on August 25, 2026. Nintendo Switch 2 owners can use the console’s ‘GameShare’ feature to play the game locally with friends using just one copy.
So, like a lot of classic game collections, this Super Bomberman Collection isn’t just a straight-up re-release. They’ve added some really cool stuff that wasn’t in the original games. For example, I can rewind if I mess up – seriously helpful! And I can finally save my progress whenever I want, which is a huge relief. They even included an art gallery with stuff from the whole Bomberman series, and a music player where I can listen to all the old soundtracks. Oh, and there’s a Boss Rush mode where I can fight a bunch of bosses back-to-back. It’s a great way to test my skills!
Every Game Included in Super Bomberman Collection
Super Bomberman Collection includes seven individual Bomberman games:
- Bomberman(Famicom)
- Bomberman 2 (Famicom)
- Super Bomberman (Super Famicom)
- Super Bomberman 2 (Super Famicom)
- Super Bomberman 3 (Super Famicom)
- Super Bomberman 4 (Super Famicom)
- Super Bomberman 5 (Super Famicom)
This collection features every Super Bomberman game that originally came out on the Super Famicom. Notably, Super Bomberman 4 and 5 were never before available outside of Japan. It also includes the original Bomberman games from the Famicom. While all the games share the classic Bomberman maze gameplay, each one offers something a little different – like the ‘Sudden Death’ mode in Super Bomberman 2 or the ‘Push’ mechanic in Super Bomberman 4, which lets you knock opponents into bombs or off the stage.

The most recent main Bomberman game was Super Bomberman R 2, released in 2023. It continued the style of the 2017 game, originally a Nintendo Switch exclusive, with updated graphics but familiar Bomberman gameplay. A standout feature of Super Bomberman R 2 was its Stage Editor, letting players design and share custom levels online. However, the game didn’t receive strong reviews, scoring a 68 on OpenCritic with only 37% of critics recommending it. Now that Super Bomberman Collection has been unexpectedly released, we don’t yet know how critics will react to it.
