As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt and countless hours sunk into the Borderlands franchise, I must say that the latest update for Borderlands 3 has me feeling like I just opened a Vault key right in my living room. The addition of accessibility options for Steam Deck users, auto-sell enhancements, and the ability to create a max-level character without having to replay the entire game is nothing short of revolutionary.

In a delightful turn of events, the game “Borderlands 3” has unexpectedly received an update. This upgrade includes features tailored for Steam Deck users, improvements in the auto-sell system, and a highly significant addition – the capacity to instantly generate a character at the maximum level. Notably, this update aligns with the premiere of the “Borderlands” movie, allowing enthusiasts who felt the urge to revisit the game to immediately dive back into the action.

The debut of the Borderlands movie has been more of a quiet sigh than an explosion of excitement so far. Even during its production, fans expressed doubts about its success, and it appears their concerns were validated when the film received a dismal 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. As of now, that score has only slightly improved to 6%, with a 48% audience rating. However, future developments for Borderlands 3, such as streamlined gameplay entry and quality-of-life improvements, are aimed at luring players back in.

As a long-time fan of the Borderlands series, I must say I’m quite excited about the recent updates for Borderlands 3 on Steam Deck. Having played numerous hours on my PC and console, I can appreciate the small yet impactful changes made to improve the gaming experience for handheld play.

In the Borderlands series, while the story is not something you’d want to miss out on, the gameplay and longevity mainly come from the endgame content due to its status as a looter shooter. Throughout the series, this endgame content has been presented through various raid bosses in Borderlands. Although some of these raid bosses can be tackled solo with the right characters and builds, many require close cooperation and specific team compositions to be defeated effectively.

Even though it might seem small, this change could potentially rally avid fans of the game who have been hiding in the shadows. Although the Borderlands movie didn’t succeed, the Borderlands franchise remains one of Gearbox’s cherished intellectual properties. It remains to be seen if the movie’s poor reputation will have a lasting impact on this beloved series.

Borderlands 3 August 8 Patch Notes

  • Added an option to auto-sell gear based on rarity from the main menu:
  • This auto-sell feature automatically sells gear below your set rarity when picked up. Cosmetics will not auto-sell.
    • A note for Mission Gear: Once a mission has ended, any mission reward items offered as a pickup could be automatically sold if auto-sell is enabled. Before completing a mission, the auto-sell option can be set to “None” to avoid possibly losing a mission reward.
