As a seasoned Borderlands veteran with countless hours spent looting, shooting, and leveling up in the vibrant world of Pandora, I can’t help but feel both relieved and slightly disappointed by the max level cap in Borderlands 3. On one hand, knowing that my vault hunter will top out at level 72 brings a sense of closure to the character progression journey. It sets an achievable end-game goal and gives me something to strive for beyond the main storyline.
In “Borderlands 3”, beyond a certain level, your Vault Hunter stops accruing Experience Points. However, there’s still plenty of opportunity to gather new Legendary equipment. The catch is that once you reach this level, your character will no longer gain any more Skill Points to invest in the skill tree.
Consequently, the level cap signifies that your character has a fixed amount of skill points for development. Understanding how many times you can increase your level provides an objective for the end-game in BL3.
In Borderlands 3, once you reach the maximum level, you’ll begin advancing your Guardian Rank. This rank is unlocked upon completion of the main storyline and serves as an end-game system for enhancing your passive abilities. It bears a resemblance to the Badass Ranks from Borderlands 2.
What’s the Max Level Cap in Borderlands 3?
In Borderlands 3, the highest level your character can reach is restricted to 72. This limit applies even without any expansions or additional content packs. A notable difference from earlier Borderlands games is that you won’t need to buy any DLC to boost the level cap in BL3; instead, these enhancements are integrated into the base game. To reach the maximum vault hunter level, simply ensure your game is updated to the latest patch.
While it’s not a claim that the DLCs for the game BL3 aren’t worth purchasing, quite the contrary. The storylines in these expansions are often stronger than the main campaign, and they offer some incredibly potent legendary weapons. Moreover, the extra missions provided serve as a more efficient way to accumulate experience points for leveling up, rather than repetitively playing the base game’s end-game content.
5 years after its release, Borderlands 2 got an unexpected fifth expansion pack as downloadable content (DLC), raising its level cap from 72 to 80. If the pattern continues for Borderlands 3, it might see a level cap increase next year before the debut of Borderlands 4. At this point, there are no indications or announcements regarding this matter.
Can You Max All Skill Trees in Borderlands 3?
In Borderlands 3, it isn’t possible to accumulate enough skill points to fully maximize all the skill trees. However, you can unlock the final capstone skills (the bottom-most skills) for your two chosen skill trees since the game’s progression system doesn’t necessitate unlocking every single node along the way.
In Borderlands 3, you can’t fully upgrade various skills across all skill trees because you have a limited number of skill points to spend per row. The way you utilize your character, the playstyle you prefer, and the weapons you like best will guide where you should allocate your skill points among the skill trees.
