Gearbox has announced that *Borderlands 4* will no longer be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 on its originally planned date. The game was previously scheduled to come out on the Switch 2 a few weeks after the PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 versions, on October 3rd, but now there’s no confirmed release date for the Switch 2 version.
Since its release on September 12th, *Borderlands 4* has faced technical issues, even on powerful computers. This led to a lot of interest in how the game would perform on the upcoming Switch 2. It’s clear that Gearbox wasn’t satisfied with the game as it was originally planned for an October 3rd release.
Borderlands 4 Won’t Be Arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3
Gearbox announced that *Borderlands 4* will be delayed on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they explained this wasn’t an easy decision, but they want to make sure the game is the best it can be, and needs more time for development and polishing. They also stated that all digital pre-orders will be canceled, starting automatically on September 26th, in line with Nintendo’s rules. Players who pre-ordered a physical copy are advised to contact the store where they purchased it.
The announcement also explained that this change is to ensure the game launches at the same time as the cross-save feature, which wasn’t available when *Borderlands 4* came out on other systems. This won’t benefit players who finish the game on the Nintendo Switch 2 first, but it will help those who begin playing on other platforms. Gearbox hasn’t announced a new release date for *Borderlands 4* on Nintendo Switch 2 yet, but says they’ll share an update as soon as their plans are finalized.
A new issue has caused a setback for *Borderlands 4*’s plans after release. The game generally runs well, and a smooth launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 was expected, letting the developers at Gearbox focus on creating new content. Unfortunately, they now need to spend time fixing performance issues and ensuring the game runs properly on the Switch 2. It’s unclear if this will delay the planned updates and additions to the game.
