One passionate Borderlands 4 player has gone above and beyond, defeating over 3,000 bosses and investing 150 hours to figure out how rare items are in the game. Gearbox Software doesn’t publicly share these drop rates, but this dedicated player’s research reveals that getting certain Legendary items is actually quite difficult.
Since its release earlier this year, *Borderlands 4* has become a commercial success, selling over 2.5 million copies and generating more than $150 million in revenue. However, players who have finished the main game are finding that the game doesn’t give out rare, Legendary items very often.
Gamer Kills Over 3,000 Bosses to Discover Borderlands 4’s Disappointingly Low Drop Rate
A player named Siphonicfir created a spreadsheet detailing Legendary item drop rates in *Borderlands 4*. Their research suggests that any specific Legendary item has about a 5% chance of dropping, while the overall chance of *any* Legendary item dropping is around 4%. Siphonicfir believes each unique item has its own 5% drop rate, and that bosses drop more overall because they have a wider range of possible items. Although this isn’t official information, it’s based on over 150 hours of gameplay and 3,000 boss kills, making it likely to be quite reliable.
Siphonicfir suggests increasing the drop rate for specific items from 5% to 10% to find a good balance. They point out that *Borderlands 2*, often considered the best game in the series, had a 10% drop rate, and a higher rate would keep players from getting discouraged and quitting. Additionally, they believe class mods should be more likely to drop for the player’s current class, since currently, 75% of dropped mods are often unusable.

I’ve been reading a lot of reviews for *Borderlands 4*, and even the good ones say the endgame feels a little weak. So, as a fan, I’m really hoping Gearbox looks at fixing that. Everyone seems to be talking about the loot drops – some think they’re too low, others are okay with it, but honestly, more Legendary gear would just make everyone happier and give us more to do after we beat the story. I’m keeping my fingers crossed they address it soon, if they decide to!
