Gearbox Software has given fans a sneak peek at the first downloadable content pack for Borderlands 4, called How Rush Saved Mercenary Day. They released a short trailer and announced the release date for this paid DLC, which is the first major addition to the game since its launch, complementing the ongoing updates and free content.
Since launching in September, *Borderlands 4* has been very successful. Gearbox has consistently released updates to improve the game, including a recent balancing update with several improvements. Now, it looks like the next update will focus on adjusting a particularly powerful character build. Plus, Gearbox announced that the first major paid downloadable content will be available in November.

At PAX Australia, Gearbox Software announced the first downloadable content pack for Borderlands 4. Called “How Rush Saved Mercenary Day,” this pack adds a festive theme to the game and revisits the story of Rush, a leader from Borderlands 4. Players will face a new enemy, Mister Screw, during the in-game holiday celebration of Mercenary Day.
Before releasing the game, Gearbox showed players a plan for future content in Borderlands 4. They explained that Bounty Packs are small, paid expansions that add new stories, gear, and cosmetic items. The “How Rush Saved Mercenary Day” pack fits well between two free updates: one for Halloween, called “Horrors of Kairos,” and another featuring an Invincible Boss, planned for later this year.
As a huge Borderlands fan, I’m really excited about what’s coming! We’re getting a Bounty Pack now, and another one early in 2026 to keep us busy while we wait for the first big Story Pack – think of it like a full expansion for the game. Gearbox has given us a sneak peek at what’s in store with Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, and it’s awesome to see that C4SH will be a playable Vault Hunter in *Borderlands 4*! They haven’t revealed a ton of details yet, which makes sense since the Story Pack is still a ways off, but it sounds like C4SH will have a really unique skillset involving dice and playing cards. I can’t wait to learn more!
