Just two weeks after launching on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, *Borderlands 4* is already nearing three million copies sold. This latest installment in the popular *Borderlands* series features a huge, open world called Kairos for players to discover – a first for the franchise.
Borderlands 4 was a major game launch in 2025, and it’s proven incredibly popular with players. It quickly reached over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam, breaking the series’ previous record. Critics have also given the game positive reviews, awarding it an 83 on Metacritic – a slight improvement over Borderlands 3. Praised for its satisfying shooting mechanics, diverse character options, and improved sense of humor, Borderlands 4 is a hit with both critics and fans.
Borderlands 4 Has Sold 2.5 Million Copies So Far
Just under two weeks after its release, *Borderlands 4* has already sold nearly three million copies. GamesIndustry.biz reports that the game has surpassed 2.5 million units sold, earning 2K around $150 million in revenue. Notably, 1.3 million copies were purchased on Steam, even though the PC version initially had some performance problems that Gearbox has now mostly fixed with a recent update.
Although the launch of *Borderlands 4* has been generally successful, its initial sales are lower than those of *Borderlands 3*, which sold over five million copies in its first five days and eventually reached 22 million copies sold. This difference is understandable, as *Borderlands 3* followed the highly popular *Borderlands 2*. The seven-year wait between those games also built a lot of excitement. In contrast, *Borderlands 4* arrives after the franchise has faced criticism due to the mixed reception of *Borderlands 3* and the disappointing *Borderlands* movie released last year. This has likely made players more cautious, even though *Borderlands 4* has received positive reviews.
Borderlands 4 is expected to sell over three million copies in the next few weeks, thanks to positive reviews and growing popularity. The game’s release on the new Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3rd should significantly boost sales even further.
