Lucian’s Flank is a powerful, legendary Vladof assault rifle featured in Borderlands 4. What makes it special is its ability to continuously fire bullets as long as the player lands critical hits on enemies. Players familiar with Borderlands 3 might remember Lucian’s Call – while the names are different, these two guns function almost identically.
Although it might not be ideal for taking down bosses, Lucian’s Flank is a great choice if you enjoy Vladof weapons. It’s among the top assault rifles in Borderlands 4, and if you’re looking to find a perfectly optimized Lucian’s Flank, here’s where you should go.
How to Get Lucian’s Flank in Borderlands 4
You can find this powerful weapon – and two others – at The Old Scrape, which is one of the Ripper Drill Sites in Borderlands 4, located at the southern end of Terminus Range. You’ll face the Meathead Riders, a two-part boss fight featuring the Meathead Saddleback and its rider, the Immortal Boneface. True to his name, Boneface won’t go down until you destroy Saddleback first.
Destroy all the Rippers, and when Saddleback and Boneface show up, concentrate your attacks on Saddleback. He will sometimes boost the Rippers around him, making them more aggressive and much harder to defeat. If things get difficult, try to draw the Rippers away from the area where Saddleback’s buff is affecting them.
Saddleback is equipped with a strong, long-distance missile barrage that can be extremely dangerous. It’s best to always try to position yourself with some kind of cover between you and him whenever possible.
Is Lucian’s Flank Any Good?
Yes (Under the Right Conditions)
Whenever you land a critical hit with Lucian’s Flank, the weapon will automatically refill 2 bullets into its magazine. This functions similarly to Lucian’s Call, however, there’s a key difference: Lucian’s Flank’s ammo restoration has a cooldown. This prevents you from simply holding down the fire button to recover all your ammo after hitting a critical hit with the knife.
Also, because Lucian’s Flank is an elemental weapon, each shot doesn’t do much damage. However, it can apply status effects and is effective against enemies weak to its element. Keep in mind that if you’re shooting at something that’s resistant to the damage type, you’ll use a lot more ammunition than normal.
The Lucian’s Flank weapon performs optimally when players tailor their builds to maximize its strengths and minimize its weaknesses. For instance, Rafa can achieve a 100% critical hit chance against enemies affected by Shock using skills from his APOPHIS Lance skill tree. Other Vault Hunters also possess skills that can significantly enhance the damage output of this gun.
