You’ve got people like Rush, who’s this sweet rebel leader obsessed with protein, and then there’s the super creepy Idolator Sol. Honestly, the cast is just one of the best parts!
Similar to previous games, *Borderlands 4* brings back many beloved characters. Youāll see familiar faces like Moxxi, Zane, and Amara, and surprisingly, Claptrap – the often-annoying robot – plays a much bigger and more enjoyable role in this fourth installment.
Claptrap Is One of Borderlands’ Most Annoying Characters

Claptrap has been in every *Borderlands* game so far, and he’s become a well-known part of the series – often featured in its advertisements. However, despite his prominence, many fans actually dislike him.
Claptrap from *Borderlands* is famous for talking⦠a lot. He often goes on and on about unimportant things. Combined with his loud, hyperactive voice, all that chatter can quickly become annoying.

Claptrap hasn’t exactly been a fan favorite in past *Borderlands* games. In the original *Borderlands*, heād constantly interrupt gameplay with reminders to turn in quests or talk to characters, and his voice could be grating. Later, in *Borderlands 2* and *3*, players sometimes had to follow him as he slowly moved around, constantly stopping to talk nonstop.

In *Borderlands 4*, players will have a special slider just for Claptrapās voice, allowing them to completely silence him without affecting other audio.
Borderlands 4 Gives Claptrap Some Surprising Depth

Surprisingly, *Borderlands 4* manages to make Claptrap a truly likable character. Players who once found him irritating will likely remember his story for a long time. This transformation happens during the side quest ‘No Place Like Home,’ which becomes available as soon as you start exploring the game’s open world.
This optional mission begins with Claptrap anxiously requesting the player find some important supplies for the Crimson Resistance on Kairos. These items are hidden within the territory controlled by The Order, but that wonāt stop the brave Vault Hunters of Borderlands 4 from retrieving them.

Once players defeat the Big Orange Hothead, they’ll discover the first item on Claptrap’s list: a portrait of Mad Moxxi. It’s found in a room completely filled with similar pictures of the popular *Borderlands* character. The player points out that Claptrap claimed this was important for the Crimson Resistance, but the robot confesses they’re actually his stolen personal possessions from when he first landed on the planet.
The Vault Hunter, though hesitant, agrees to help Claptrap with his next request. It turns out he needs a part from VR-ON1CA – the robot players built with Claptrap in *Borderlands 3* – who abandoned him as soon as she was finished, leaving him heartbroken. Claptrapās final request is even more disturbing: a Psycho he trapped in a portable toilet and then forgot about.

A Routine Fetch Quest Turns Into an Emotional Tale of Grief and Acceptance
This quest features a lot of Claptrapās typical annoying chatter, but a surprising theme emerges: a look at his mental wellbeing. Lines like āI just wish making friends was as easy as mechanical engineeringā suggest Claptrap might be feeling down, and his unusually sad tone hints at a vulnerable side of the character that fans haven’t seen before.
The story reaches a turning point at the conclusion of the ‘No Place Like Home’ side quest in *Borderlands 4*, where the player returns Claptrapās possessions. Once delivered, itās revealed that Claptrap is building a memorial to his past life on Pandora, claiming he had friends there and that everything was always good.

Instead of simply making Claptrap the butt of a joke, *Borderlands 4* thoughtfully explores a surprisingly touching moment, finally giving the character meaningful development after ten years. The player helps Claptrap realize he can have a positive future on Kairos if he accepts the present and moves past his history.
Okay, so Claptrap gets this idea – a really Claptrap idea, honestly. He wants me to load all the junk we found onto a boat, strap some dynamite to it, and blow it up! It sounds crazy, but when I did, the explosion wasn’t just an explosion – it was like a huge fireworks display, all bright and colorful. It was super emotional, actually. It felt like Claptrap was finally letting go of whatever was bothering him and getting ready to move on. It was a pretty awesome moment, seeing him finally seem⦠okay.
This *Borderlands 4* side quest surprisingly adds a lot of emotional weight to a character usually known for being a funny-and intentionally irritating-presence.
