After a few weeks of silence, a major update for Borderlands 4 has been released, detailing the game’s plans through 2026. The new roadmap is largely similar to Gearbox’s original vision, but now includes an additional takedown and a bonus Bounty Pack scheduled for early 2026.
There’s more good news! The new roadmap coincides with the release of the first Bounty Pack for Borderlands 4, called How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, and it’s available to all players for free. Originally, these Bounty Packs were planned as paid downloadable content, so this first one being free is a welcome surprise.
Borderlands 4’s Updated 2026 Roadmap Arrives Alongside a Hefty Update
For the past few weeks, updates about Borderlands 4 have been scarce, with the game’s official X account and creative director Graeme Timmins hinting that new content was coming. Now, a revised roadmap for 2026 has been released. The Borderlands 4 team shared the updated plan on X, stating it was created in response to fan requests for more challenging endgame content.
New additions to Borderlands 4‘s endgame roadmap:
- The new roadmap now mentions “Bounty Packs 3–5” in the “Beyond Q1 2026” column, as opposed to “Bounty Packs 3+4”
- “New Takedown” has also been added in the “Beyond Q1 2026” column
Gearbox has released a major update for Borderlands 4 alongside the new roadmap and first Bounty Pack. This patch focuses on improving the game’s stability and performance. It also makes progress on the Phosphene weapon challenge apply to your entire account instead of just one character, and boosts the damage of several weapons and Firmware items.
Gearbox, the team behind Borderlands 4, recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they’ll share more details soon. They’re also prepping players for Bloomreaper, the game’s first incredibly difficult boss coming in December. With Bloomreaper will come a new level for the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, and players will have a chance to earn completely new, powerful Legendary items.
Gearbox seems to have more plans for players beyond the recently revealed endgame roadmap for Borderlands 4. After weeks of requests for updates, the news – including the free How Rush Saved Mercenary Day Bounty Pack, detailed patch notes, the updated roadmap, and hints of even more content – should satisfy fans for now.
